Golden Eagles Soar Past Gators at Home in Non-Conference Matchup

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles defeated the Russell Sage Gators, 8-2, in a non-conference game at the Clark V. Whited Complex. Brockport is now 14-7 overall and 3-3 in the SUNYAC conference after the bounce back win at home.

Tyler Pohlman made his first career start on the mound, striking out six batters across the 18 batters he faced. Pohlman let up two runs, three hits and two walks across his 4.0 innings pitched.

Brockport earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Cole Traudt singled and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Brian Tietjen then singled to center field, batting in Traudt for the first run of the afternoon. The Gators were quick to fight back, scoring a run in the top of the second and their second run in the top of the third to go up 2-1.

Brockport scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead, 3-2. Traudt reached first on a fielder's choice where Steven Ciancio III was tagged out at second. With two outs on the inning, TJ Strevell earned a walk and Traudt advanced to second. Nick Mahar earned a walk, leaving the bases loaded for pinch hitter Jason Mansell. Mansell singled to center field batting in both Traudt and Strevell for the second and third Golden Eagle runs of the game.

The Golden Eagles had a big sixth inning to take a comfortable lead. Logan Wing singled landing on first base. Josh Indek sacrificed on a bunt to move Wing to second. Ciancio III doubled, batting home Wing. Traudt was up to bat next and doubled to right field, batting in Ciacnio III. Strevell doubled and brought home Traudt for run number six. Nick Mahar singled batting in Strevell and then advanced to second by an error on the throw from right field. Mansell singled and batted in Mahar for the last run of the game.

Neither team would add more to the scoreboard through the final few innings. Brockport would take care of business at home for the 8-2 win.
