Softball Splits at Oswego to Snag 1st SUNYAC Win

Oswego, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team earned a split against Oswego on the road in conference play on Tuesday. After an 8-0 loss in game one, Brockport bounced back with a 7-3 win in the second. The Golden Eagles are now 7-17 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
 
Game 1: Brockport 0, Oswego 8
 
The first of the doubleheader saw a tight game until the Lakers got hot in the fourth. They scored six runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to start the day off with an 8-0 win.
 
Riley Barrett (1-2), Kellie Gentile (1-2), and Erin Dougherty (1-2, 2B) all registered hits offensively for Brockport. Caitlyn Dailey drew a pair of walks and Gentile had two stolen bases in the contest.
 
Kendall Phillips (L, 4-5) got the start and threw 4.0 innings in game one. She struck out five batters, allowed four earned runs, and gave up five hits. Fiona Gibiser allowed two runs to score on three hits in her 0.2 innings of work.
 
Game 2: Brockport 7, Oswego 3
 
In a quick turnaround for game two of the set, Brockport bounced back with a strong offensive showing. The squad connected for 12 hits after registering just three in the first contest of the doubleheader.
 
Olivia Simone (2-4, 2B) had four RBIs and Erin Dougherty (3-3, 2B) had three RBIs to lead the way. Dougherty also stole a base, while Riley Barrett (2-4) came around to score two runs.
 
The Green and Gold also received hits from Kellie Gentile (1-3), Paige Wentland (1-4), Aubrey Ennis (1-4), Tori Angelo (1-3), and Cece Rappleyea (1-4, 2B).
 
Hadley Alguire (W, 3-4) picked up her third win of the season as the starting pitcher in this one. She allowed just two earned runs on six hits, while striking out four batters in 4.1 innings.
 
Pitching the final 2.2 innings, Kendall Phillips struck out a pair of batters to break the 100-strikeout mark for the season. She becomes the first Golden Eagle to hit the century mark since Jaime Berger in 2016.
 
Trailing 1-0 going into the third, Brockport scored four runs across the next couple innings to go up 4-1. The Lakers answered in the fifth with a pair of runs to make it a 4-3 score. The Golden Eagles put the game away with three more in the sixth, creating the 7-3 final.
 
Brockport is on the road again Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader against Hilbert College, starting at 3pm.
