Baseball Drops Back and Forth Battle Against New Paltz

Brockport, NY- The Brockport baseball team fell in game one of a three-game set against New Paltz, 10-6, on Friday, April 19th. The Golden Eagles fell to 15-11 overall and 4-6 in SUNYAC play.
 
Both starters rolled through the first three innings, with Matt McGowan tossing 3 hit-less innings to begin the day. McGowan would finish with 5 strikeouts and 3 earned runs across 4.1 innings of work.
 
The Hawks would take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth, until a Jack Gobin sacrifice fly and David Belsito RBI single would tie the game at 2-2.
 
Following a two-run top of the 5th from New Paltz, the Golden Eagles would score the game's next 3 runs, thanks to RBI hits from Brian Tietjen (5th inning), Josh Indek (2B, 6th), and Zach Eldred (6th), to take a 5-4 advantage.
 
New Paltz would take control in the 7th, with RBI hits from Justin Harvey (2 RBI), Dillon Ristano (2), and Fabian Apicella giving the Hawks a 9-5 lead.
 
Both teams would add a run in the 8th, but the Hawks would seal the deal with a scoreless bottom of the 9th to defeat Brockport 10-6.
 
Matt Sarni (W, 3-0) picked up the win in relief for New Paltz, tossing 3.2 innings of 1-run baseball with 6 punchouts.
 
Eric Servellon (L, 0-2) went 1.2 innings with 2 strikeouts and 2 earned runs for Brockport.
 
Josh Indek had a day at the leadoff spot, reaching base safely 4 times with 3 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI.
 
David Belsito did much of the same, going 3 for 4 with a walk, RBI, and two runs scored.
 
Brian Doherty (2 K's) and Brendan Pajak both tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the Green and Gold.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will host New Paltz for doubleheader action, with game one scheduled for noon, and game two scheduled for 3 p.m.
