Brockport Falls 5-4 in Bottom of Ninth

Cortland, NY – The SUNY Brockport Baseball program traveled to Cortland today for the first game of the three game weekend series. The Golden Eagles lost 4-5 and are now 13-5 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC conference.
 
Ryan Peters started on the mound for the green and gold pitching 5.0 innings. Peters struck out four batters, let up seven hits, two runs and two walks across 22 at bats. 
 
Cortland scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
 
The game remained scoreless until Nick Mahar got the ball rolling with a leadoff homerun in the top of the fifth inning. Steven Ciancio III singled to left field. Logan Wing grounded out to first base on a sacrifice bunt, helping Ciancio III advance to second. Josh Indek singled through the left side, batting in Steven Ciancio. Cortland answered back quickly in the bottom of the fifth with a home run to left field.
 
In the top of the seventh Mahar singled up the middle. Steven Ciancio III doubled down the line to left field and Mahar advanced to third. Indek reached first on a fielder's choice earning an RBI when both Mahar and Steven Ciacnio scored tying the game up at 4-4.
 
Cortland scored in the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field ending the game.
 
Anthony Lapine pitched 2.1 innings. Lapine struck out 2 batters, let up three hits, two runs and two walks across nine at bats. Eric Servellon pitched 0.2 innings, striking out one batter, letting up one hit, one run and one walk across three at bats.
 
Brockport will return to Robert H. Wallace field for the final two games of the series tomorrow starting at noon.
