Softball Swept by Buffalo State in SUNYAC Opener

Buffalo, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team opened up conference play on Sunday. The squad lost both games of the road doubleheader with Buffalo State, with final scores of 2-1 and 9-1.

Game 1: Brockport 1, Buffalo State 2

Both teams had solid showings from the pitchers in this one. Brockport's Rose Stroh (L, 0-3) got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowing just three hits and two earned runs. Kendall Phillips finished out the final 3.2 innings, striking out seven batters and giving up just one hit.

Kellie Gentile was on fire at the plate to start the doubleheader. She went a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with three singles, an RBI, and a stolen base. Riley Barrett went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Paige Wentland was 1-for-4 as well.

The Bengals got on the board first with a run in the first inning. They would then build upon an early 1-0 lead in the third. Buffalo State went up 2-0 with another run. Brockport responded with a run in the third, but that was all the offense could produce. Buffalo State pulled out with a 2-1 win to start the day.

Game 2: Brockport 1, Buffalo State 9

In game two of Sunday's doubleheader, the Bengals had their offense going right away. They put up five runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the second to take a comfortable 7-0 lead. Although Brockport scored one run in the fourth, Buffalo State marched on for the 9-1 win in five innings.

Grace Talbut provided the one hit for Brockport in the contest, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Tori Angelo was credited with an RBI, which brought Ciara Olivo in to score the lone run of the game.

Hadley Alguire (L, 2-3) got the losing decision as the starting pitcher in this one. Fiona Gibiesr (1.1 IP), Kendall Phillips (2.2 IP), and Rose Stroh (0.2 IP) all took a turn in the circle in game two.
