Brockport, NY – On Friday the Golden Eagle softball team was swept at home in a doubleheader against the Oneonta Red Dragons. With final scores of 5-1 and 9-1, Brockport moves to 8-26 overall and 2-14 in the conference.
Game 1: Brockport 1, Oneonta 5
The first game of the doubleheader saw both teams held scoreless until the fourth inning. It was Oneonta that struck first, taking a 1-0 lead. Brockport tied the game up in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from
Tori Angelo that brought
Olivia Simone home.
Angelo went 2-for-4 at the plate with the one RBI.
Riley Barrett was 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot, while
Erin Dougherty went 2-for-4 batting second in the lineup.
Natalie Faas also connected for a hit, going 1-for-3.
The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the Red Dragons had a 4-run inning in the top of the seventh. They took the lead in the final inning, 5-1, pulling out the win in game one.
Brockport's
Kendall Phillips (L, 5-8) started at pitcher for the first contest of the day. She went the full 7.0 innings in the circle with three strikeouts and allowing just one earned run on six hits.
Game 2: Brockport 1, Oneonta 9
The visiting Red Dragons would strike first once again, this time going up 1-0 in the first inning. They then added a second run in the third, to make it a 2-0 score early in the game.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Green and Gold got on the board to make it a 2-1 score.
Kellie Gentile hit an RBI double to right field, bringing
Erin Dougherty in to score the run.
Oneonta changed the tone of the game with a 6-run effort in the sixth inning to take a commanding, 8-1, lead. The team added one more run in the ninth, creating the final score of 9-1.
Gentile was great at the plate in this one, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
Erin Dougherty and
Olivia Simone both finished game two 1-for-3 with a double. Dougherty added two stolen bases and a run to her stat line.
Rose Stroh (L, 0-5) threw 5.1 innings as the Golden Eagle starting pitcher. She struck out two batters, while allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
Fiona Gibiser finished out the final 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday for the final series of the season. They host New Paltz for a 12pm start time to game one of the doubleheader. Brockport will also be hosting Dumaw Day and Senior Day to close out the 2024 campaign.
