Brockport, NY – This weekend the Brockport men's basketball team is on the road for a pair of Empire 8 matchups. First up is a trip to Hartwick on Friday night for a 7:30pm tip-off. Then on Saturday the squad heads to Russell Sage for a 4pm start.
 
Back on Track: After a 1-6 start to the season, the Golden Eagles have won two in a row since the calendar flipped to 2025. Wins over Delhi, 85-74, and Utica, 70-68, improved Brockport to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
 
Empire 8 Debut: Earlier this week Brockport made its Empire 8 debut on the hardwood. As a first-year member of the E8 the team opened conference play on the road at Utica. The Golden Eagles pulled out a tight victory on the road, 70-68, over the Pioneers. Although Brockport had a 1-point lead at halftime, the team faced a 4-point deficit late in regulation. Tony Arnold, Mekhi Beckett, and Jacob Oka all delivered in the clutch to lift Brockport to a 2-point win.
 
Arnold Doing it All: In Tuesday's win at Utica, Tony Arnold delivered down the stretch on his way to his third double-double of the season. Scoring 11 points late in the contest, he finished with 18 points, 10 boards, four assists, two steals, and one block. Following this performance, he has per game averages of 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 3.0 steals (all team-highs).
 
Heating Up: Both Mekhi Beckett and Nathaniel Gordon have stepped up recently for the Green and Gold. Beckett has scored 20+ points in back-to-back games, after averaging 6.2 points per game beforehand. Now at 10.4 points a game on the season, Beckett has led Brockport in scoring since the start of 2025. Gordon has also seen an uptick in his scoring numbers recently, putting up 10+ points in three straight games. From December 1^st, 2024 to now he is averaging 12.3 points per game compared to his season average of 8.5.
 
This Weekend's Competition: The Hartwick Hawks recently defeated Elmira, 71-68, to pick up their first win of the season. They head into Friday night's home game with Brockport at 1-9 overall and 1-0 in the E8. Russell Sage on the other hand has gotten off to a great start this year at 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Gators will host Geneseo on Friday ahead of Saturday's tilt with Brockport. They enter the weekend on a five game win streak.
