Geneseo, NY - SUNY Brockport defeated the Geneseo Knights, 67-55, on Tuesday at Carl Schrader Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles win their third in a row, improving to 10-8 overall and 8-1 in the E8.
Zachary Rice led SUNY Brockport with a strong scoring performance, tallying 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, including two 3-pointers.Â
Christian Amica contributed defensively with two steals, while
Jakhi Lucas was a standout on defense, amassing five steals along with four assists.Â
Mekhi Beckett made an impact from beyond the arc, hitting three 3-pointers in his 11-point outing.
Jacob Oka dominated the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds, to support the team's efforts in Brockport's impressive rebounding display. The team outrebounded the opponent, 52-38, including a 23-8 advantage on the offensive glass.
SUNY Brockport trailed the Knights at the end of the first half with a score of 27-37.
Zachary Rice led a strong offensive effort with a successful 3-pointer and a layup, contributing to 9 points.Â
Jacob Oka was effective in the paint, securing multiple offensive rebounds and scoring a total of 9 points, including a key layup and subsequent free throw in the final moments of the half.Â
Despite committing 9 fouls, Brockport managed to stay competitive, capitalizing on opportunities with 12 offensive rebounds and 7 points scored from turnovers.
In the second half, SUNY Brockport's
Tony Arnold played a pivotal role, securing multiple offensive rebounds and scoring crucial points, including a layup at the 18-minute mark that narrowed the gap to one point.Â
Jakhi Lucas contributed significantly with steals and assists, notably assisting
Mekhi Beckett's 3-pointer that gave Brockport a 43-41 lead.Â
Emilio Nabli also added a 3-pointer, while
Zachary Rice and
Christian Amica capitalized on the Knights' turnovers.
Brockport's careful ball handling was evident as they committed just 10 turnovers compared to Geneseo's 17. The Golden Eagles dominated the second half, winning the final 20 minutes of play 40-18.
This weekend Brockport will host a pair of home games to continue Empire 8 play. On Friday at 7:30pm the squad will face Keuka, ahead of a 4pm tip-off on Saturday against Elmira.
