BROCKPORT, N.Y- The Brockport Men's Soccer team defeated St. John Fisher on home turf, 1-0, on Saturday, October 11th. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in Empire 8 contests.
The first half proved to be a defensive stalemate, with neither team able to record the opening goal. Brockport would hold an 8-3 edge in shots, producing four shots on goal.
Ryan Mathis,
Peter Tinaj, and
Finn Sullivan all created scoring chances in the first half, but Cardinal's goalie Parker Stusek would keep the game scoreless going into halftime.Â
Less than 10 minutes into the second half,
Jadin Lyle would deliver the game-winning goal. Lyle would navigate past multiple St. John Fisher defenders to bury a bar-down rocket.
The Cardinals would threaten to even the score, but an
AJ Nelson save and excellent play from the Brockport backline would secure a 1-0 win.
AJ Nelson (W, 5-0-1) picked up his third clean sheet of the season, making two saves and remaining unbeaten as a starter.
Ryan Mathis led all players with four shots. Mathis and
Peter Tinaj recorded two shots on goal each.
Brockport finished with a 13-7 shots advantage, recording six shots on goal to St. John Fisher's two.
