Brockport, NY – The Brockport Golden Eagles totaled 609 yards of offense in a dominant 48-14 win over Alfred State at home on Saturday. With this impressive bounce back win, Brockport moves to 4-2 with a 2-1 mark in the E8.
After receiving the opening kickoff, it took the Golden Eagles less than a minute to open up the scoring. It took two snaps from scrimmage for them to find the endzone to go up 7-0.
Isaiah Simmons ran for 21 yards, which then set up Gocella's pass to Manneh for a 37-yard touchdown.
Brockport's defense wasted no time in getting the ball back, forcing a 3-and-out on Alfred State's first drive of the game. Gocella led the drive down the field for Brockport with five straight completions, setting up Simmons for a 10-yard touchdown run. Just 5:05 into this E8 clash, the Green and Gold jumped out to a 14-0 lead.
The ensuing Pioneer drive would yield yet another quick punt.
Jayden Ferrell got in on the tackle on back-to-back plays to help get back-to-back 3-and-outs for the defense. However, the next offensive possession ended differently for Brockport.
This time it was three straight plays made by
Zymier Jackson to set Brockport's offense up in the redzone. On third down at the 16-yard line, Alfred State's Evan Bowen came up with a spectacular one-handed interception on Gocella's shot to the endzone. Alfred State would take over after the touchback with a spark.
The Pioneers were able to fight and move the chains for the first time in the game on their next drive. They wouldn't get much further though, as the Green and Gold tightened up on defense to force yet another punt. Brockport would take over near midfield, ready to add to the scoreboard.
Just four plays later, the Golden Eagles ran Simmons into the endzone from six yards out for his second score of the game. They would benefit on the drive from a 38-yard completion from Gocella to Weller. Brockport held a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
Alfred State's offense was able to move the ball down the field much more effectively on its next drive. Picking up three first downs, the Pioneers looked to threaten to score for the first time in the contest.
Chamarr Ware took that chance away with an interception for the Brockport defense, the first of his career.
With the ball back in the hands of the offense, a couple quick chunk plays would put the Golden Eagles back in scoring position. First was a 22-yard rush from Simmons, followed by a 41-yard pass play from Gocella to Manneh. Gocella would link up with
Tyler Ronk for a highlight reel catch in the back of the endzone for the touchdown. Brockport would lead 27-0 after a blocked kick on the extra point.
Down big in the first half, the Pioneers put together a much-needed scoring drive to end the second quarter. They would rattle off a 16-play, 61-yard drive with 7:02 time of possession to find the endzone. Quarterback Justin Horvath punched it in on the goal line to make it a 27-7 score going into halftime.
Alfred State received the ball to start the second half, and quickly punted the ball back to Brockport after another 3-and-out on offense. A short punt put Brockport near midfield once again, and it took the offense two plays, once again, to score. Simmons hit space for a 12-yard rush, ahead of Gocella's 41-yard touchdown pass to Weller. Brockport was now on top, 34-7.
The next series would bring a similar back and forth result. Alfred State's offense would be held without a first down for another quick punt, as the Golden Eagle defense continued to dominate. This would allow the offense to add more to an already wide margin on the scoreboard.
Gocella completed all his pass attempts on the next drive, which included a 66-yard play to
Tyler Ronk. Simmons would finish off the drive from two yards out, crossing the goal line for his third touchdown of the game.
Another stop for the Brockport defense, this time via turnover on downs, helped increase the home team's 41-7 lead even more. A pair of first down completions from Gocella to Manneh would quickly put the Golden Eagles in the redzone. Simmons would once again finish off the drive, scoring his fourth touchdown of the game and making it a 48-7 lead heading into the fourth.
The Pioneers were able to force one more turnover on defense in the fourth quarter, which gave the offense a chance to get back on the board. Alfred State's star back, Noah Currier, was able to rush for a 3-yard touchdown to create the final score, 48-14.
Brockport broke the 600-yard mark as an offense for the first time since 2019 when the team last played Alfred State. Back on September 28
th, 2019, the offense totaled 603 yards in a 55-6 win over the Pioneers.
Ben Gocella had nearly a perfect day passing the football for the Green and Gold. Completing 16 of his 17 passes, Gocella threw for a career-high 360 yards with three touchdowns (1 INT). He found three separate receivers for a touchdown in the contest.
The ground game saw
Isaiah Simmons cross the goal line four times, setting a new career best for a single game. Simmons' 4-TD, 95-yard performance gives him 12 rushing scores on the season.
Daniel Manneh had another big game for the Golden Eagles with several explosive plays on offense. With 10 receptions, including a 37-yard touchdown, Manneh totaled a career-high 209 receiving yards. Saturday marks his second 10 reception, 200 all-purpose yard game of the season.

Sal Weller and
Tyler Ronk came up with big plays in the pass game as well. Weller finished with three catches for 89 yards, also scoring the first touchdown of his collegiate career. Ronk even provided a highlight catch in the back of the endzone, recording his second touchdown reception of the season.
Alfred State's Noah Currier entered the game as the E8 leading rusher, averaging 131.2 yards per game. The Golden Eagle defense allowed little room on the ground for Currier, holding him to just 39 yards (1 TD) on 16 carries. Brockport kept Alfred State to just 196 yards of total offense and forced the Pioneers to punt eight times.
Colton Thorp made several plays in the secondary, getting credit for four pass breakups and one solo tackle.
