Brockport, NY – The women's soccer team is set for a pair of matchups this week, starting at home on Tuesday, October 21
st, where they will host Penn State Behrend for their last non-conference game of the season at 4 pm. The team will then head to Utica University on Saturday, October 25
th, for a 1 pm start. The Golden Eagles go into this week at 11-0-3 overall and 9-0 in the E8 Conference.
Post-Season Bound – Brockport has officially locked in their post-season spot in the E8 Championships, currently sitting in the No. 1 spot in the conference following their hard-fought win against Alfred on Wednesday. This is the second year the squad has clinched a postseason spot in the Empire 8 while also earning the No. 1 seed last season.
Making History – Last Wednesday, the squad brought home a 2-1 victory against Alfred, advancing to 10-0-3 overall and 8-0 In the conference, the program achieved its first undefeated record through 13 games.
Brockport took control early, with
Caitlin Nelson netting the first goal with the assist from
Megan Gerber. Alfred fought back, finishing out the first half by putting four shots on the Green and Gold over their two. Brockport's defensive line stood strong to keep the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Brockport came back, keeping control over the ball, outshooting Alfred 4-2. With just 15 minutes remaining, the Saxons cut the lead, tying up the competition with a corner kick goal from Sidney Khuns, assisted by Abby Scanlan.
Amelia Breton responded just seven minutes later, sneaking the ball past the goalkeeper to secure the 2-1 win.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles celebrated six of their seniors and their dedication to the program, including
Lyndsey Miller,
Lucy Crounse,
Megan Gerber,
Diane Lange,
Caitlin Nelson, and
Madeline McCrosson, before their matchup against Elmira.
Brockport gained control of the ball right off the bat, with
Amelia Breton and
Jordan Chizuk wasting no time taking shots early on to keep the competition tough for the Elmira defense.
Brianna Marino and
McKenna Slate took a few more shot opportunities, adding up to six total in the first half over the Soaring Eagles two, with the matchup remaining scoreless going into the second period.
The Green and Gold came back from the halftime break hot, putting pressure on Elmira, just until
Caitlin Nelson would waste no time burying the ball in the net, assisted by
McKenna Slate. Brockport kept possession of the ball, leading in shots with 12-0 over Elmira.
Scouting PSU Behrend – Penn State Behrend currently sits at 10-3-2 overall and 6-0 in the SUNYAC Conference. This is the first time the Golden Eagles and Nittany Lions are set to compete against each other in women's soccer history.
A Look Into Utica University – The Pioneers go into Saturday's matchup at 7-5-4 overall and 4-2-3 in the E8 Conference. The Green and Gold are an undefeated 5-0 against Utica since 2014, closing out the 2024 season with a 2-0 win.
Up Next – Brockport is set for one more conference game of the season against SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, October 29
th, at home for a 4 pm start. The Golden Eagles will then move on to post-season play for the E8 Championships, set to begin on Saturday, November 1
st, with the time and date still to be determined.
