Men's Soccer Celebrates Youth Soccer Day, Defeats Utica 2-1

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Men's Soccer team celebrated Youth Soccer Day with a 2-1 victory over Utica on Saturday, October 25th. The Golden Eagles improved to 8-4-3 overall and 7-1-2 in conference play, increasing their lead on 2nd place in the Empire 8.

Youth Soccer Day: The Golden Eagles welcomed the RNY Football Club 2015 Boys Pre-MLS to Brockport, with the team joining the Green and Gold for starting introductions. The RNY Football Club aspires to be the best, most comprehensive youth sport club in Western New York. Their continuous goal is to provide members the opportunity to develop by creating an environment that focuses on personal and athletic growth within a team setting. The team took the field at halftime to compete in an inter-squad mini game!

The Golden Eagles made the most of their scoring chances in the first half, scoring on both of their shots on goal. Less than halfway through the first half, Max Voyer would net the opening goal at the 21:36 mark, with Ryan Mathis picking up the assist.

Brockport would double its advantage in a hurry, with Brady Reinagel scoring less than ten minutes later to put the Green and Gold ahead 2-0. Trevor Lagarde would provide the assist on Brockport's second goal.

Down 2-0 entering the second half, the Pioneers would turn up the heat, outshooting Brockport 8-6 (4-1 SOG) across the final 45 minutes.

Utica would cut the Brockport lead in half at the 76:23 mark, with Carter Cookinham finding the back of the net.

Despite heavy Utica pressure, AJ Nelson would make three second-half saves to secure the critical conference victory.

Nelson (W, 7-0-2) maintained his excellent play in net, making a game-saving stop with 25 seconds left to help secure the victory.

Ryan Mathis led all players with three shots on the afternoon, finishing with an assist.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will head to SUNY Geneseo to close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 29th at 7 pm.
