Women's Soccer Set to Host Knights for Last Regular Season Matchup

Brockport, NY – The women's soccer team looks to clinch the No.1 seed in the conference as they host Geneseo for the last regular season matchup on Wednesday, October 29th, starting at 4 pm. The Golden Eagles go into this week at 11-1-4 overall and 9-0-1 in the conference.

Last Week Recap – Last Wednesday, Brockport faced Penn State Behrend for the first time in the last non-conference game of the season and suffered a 3-0 loss on home turf.

Penn State set the tone early on, taking control and finding the back of the net just 16 minutes in. Bri Ross had the goal with the assist from Mia Patel. Brockport's defense fought hard to keep the ball out of the net until Penn State's Marlene Andrade had a penalty kick opportunity and scored, bringing the team to a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Coming back from the break, the Lions brought the heat, scoring yet another goal early on to open the second half. Lindsey Pswlawski made the goal just seven minutes in, assisted by Maddie Haggerty, finishing out the competition 3-0. Brockport put up four shots, putting pressure on Penn State's defense, while they also took four shots.

Karissa Champion and Camryn Childs took turns in net for the Green and Gold, each making two saves. Champion took the first half in between the pipes, and Childs defended the net for the second period.

On Saturday, the squad traveled to Utica, where they took a 0-0 draw, keeping their undefeated conference record streak.

It was a back-and-forth battle between the Golden Eagles and Pioneers in the first half, with Brockport leading in shots with three over Utica's two. Dinah Gifford and Amelia Breton each got their foot on the ball with a shot on goal, and Diane Lange also added a shot.

The second half was much like the first, with Brockport and Utica tying in shots each with four, and tying in corner kick opportunities with two. Lucy Crounse and Lyndsey Miller each put the pressure on the Pioneers' goalkeeper with a shot on goal, and Amelia Breton and Diane Lange also added a shot each to their shot total.

Goalkeeper Emily McCane was in the net for the first period, making a total of two saves, and Madeline McCrosson defended in between the pipes for the second half, also making two saves.

Postseason Scenarios: The Golden Eagles have clinched at least a share of the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship and will be the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Tournament. Brockport holds the head-to-head tiebreaker on St. John Fisher and would be the top seed if both teams finish with 28 points. Brockport will host the No. 8 seed in the E8 quarterfinals on Nov. 1.

A Look at Geneseo – The Knights go into Wednesday at 5-4-7 overall and 5-1-4 in the E8 Conference. Last season, the Golden Eagles walked away with the 3-1 win, where they also clinched the No.1 seed on the road. In 2023, Brockport advanced to the final round of the SUNYAC Tournament after a 6-5 PK shootout win against the Knights.

E8 Championship – The Green and Gold are set to host for the first round of the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday, November 1st, time TBD.
