Field Hockey Celebrates Senior Day With 2-1 Victory Over Sage

BROCKPORT, N.Y- The Brockport Field hockey team downed Russell Sage on Senior Day, 2-1, on Saturday, October 4th. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-4 on the season with a 3-0 record in the Empire 8.

Before the start of the contest, Brockport Field Hockey recognized its lone senior, goalkeeper Katelynn Banning. Banning would start between the pipes for Brockport, picking up the win in a strong two-save effort.

Following a scoreless opening period, the Brockport offense would get on the board early in the second. Terralyn McLaughlin would bury a sharp pass from Cassidy Pado for the game's opening goal, coming just 2:24 into the second period. The Brockport defense would be excellent throughout, holding Russell Sage to just three shots on goal, none of which came in the first half.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the second half, Terralyn McLaughlin would strike again. Off a penalty corner, Allison Greene would find McLaughlin for her second goal of the afternoon, doubling Brockport's lead to 2-0 at 43:37. Russell Sage would immediately cut into the lead, with Mackenzie Dahl bringing the Gators within one entering the final frame.

Despite holding a 12-3 shots on goal advantage in the contest, Russel Sage would outshoot Brockport 4-2 in the fourth quarter. Katelynn Banning would have her senior day moment, making two crucial saves to lead Brockport to the 2-1 victory.

Elise Brady led all shooters with five shots on goal, with Terralyn McLaughlin (2G) shooting a perfect three for three. Following her two-goal effort, McLaughlin leads Brockport with four goals, four assists, and 12 points on the season.

Up Next: Brockport will head to Houghton University on Tuesday, October 7th, at 7 pm.
