Brockport, NY - The Brockport Women's Tennis team fought hard but ultimately fell to Houghton today at the Nest, 5-2. The Golden Eagles now hold a 2-6 overall record with a 1-5 stamp in conference play.
The afternoon began with tight doubles action, where Brockport narrowly dropped the point, 2-1.
The team of Leah Banes and Olivia Chiu continued their dominant run, securing the only doubles win for Brockport with an impressive 6-2 victory against Houghton's Zoe Zachery and Clancey Cockle at second doubles, bringing their season record to 5-1. Houghton clinched the doubles point with victories at first doubles (Sage Brinckerhoff / Arija Grant def. Cara Vasile / Olivia Raschiatore, 6-2) and third doubles. The third doubles point was a nail-biter, as Brockport's Gianna Masker and Kathleen Rogers fought hard before falling in a tie-breaking 7-6 contest to Houghton's Victoria Martinez and Abigail Lloyd.
Brockport secured one point in singles play, as Houghton's lineup ultimately turned the tide.
To secure the lone point of the contest for the Golden Eagles, Gianna Masker battled for a hard-fought three-set win in fifth singles. Masker topped Houghton's Zoe Zachery, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, picking up her third singles victory of the season.
Cara Vasile lost the first singles to Sage Brinckerhoff (6-1, 6-2).
In the second singles, Leah Banes was defeated by Arija Grant 6-2, 6-3
Olivia Chiu dropped the third singles match to Houghton's Clancey Cockle (6-1, 6-2).
Erin McMichael fell short in the fourth singles (6-2, 6-3) against Victoria Martinez.
To finish out singles play, Kathleen Rogers was defeated by Abigail Lloyd in the sixth singles (6-1, 6-4).
