Volleyball Ready for More Empire 8 Action

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team is back in action this weekend for more Empire 8 play. Up first is Friday night's 6pm matchup with Keuka, and then the team will travel on Saturday to face Elmira at 2pm.

Last Time Out: To begin conference play, Brockport went 1-1 last weekend against a pair of E8 opponents. After getting swept by Fisher, 3-0, on Friday, the Green and Gold bounced back against Nazareth at home on Saturday.

In the first set, the two squads battled to an 8-8 tie before Brockport went on a nice run. A 10-2 run for the Green and Gold would lead to a 25-19 win for the first set to go up 1-0. Nazareth would tie the game up at 1-1, after battling Brockport in a close 25-23 score in the second set.

The Golden Eagles then answered Nazareth in the third set to retake the lead, 2-1. After they went down, 14-10, the Golden Eagles scored 11 of the final 13 points to storm from behind. Brockport took the third set, 25-21.

Brockport would outlast the Golden Flyers in a hard-fought fourth set, 27-25. Nazareth fell behind, 15-7, but would climb back into the game. A clutch 6-0 run for the Golden Flyers tied the set up at 24-24. However, Brockport was able to hold on for the win to take a 3-1 victory over Nazareth.

The Road So Far: Brockport is slightly above .500 on the season at 8-7 overall with a 1-1 mark in E8 play so far. Even after a 1-3 start, the squad has shown the ability to bounce back after losses to stay the course. At home in The Vlog, the Golden Eagles have a 3-1 mark this season, carrying over their tradition of success on the home floor. Since the start of the 2023 season, Brockport is 16-2 at home.

Butcher has 109 kills to her name in her first season of collegiate play. Jones, another freshman, has 95 kills and averages 2.44 kills per set for Brockport so far this season.

Looking at Keuka: After going 0-2 to start conference play last weekend, the Keuka Wolves are 1-15 overall and currently on a 13-match losing streak. They will take on Alfred State on Tuesday as well as Geneseo on Friday ahead of Saturday's matchup with Brockport. Elmira is looking to right the ship after losing 11 matches in a row. Brockport swept Elmira at home last season, 3-0, in the regular season.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will be back home at The Vlog on Wednesday, October 15th for another conference clash. They will play host to the Geneseo Knights for a 6pm start.
