Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team had its 9-match win streak snapped on Saturday by Hartwick, 3-1, in the regular season finale. Finishing at 16-8 with a 9-2 E8 record, the Golden Eagles will enter the postseason as the Empire 8's No. 3 seed.
The visiting Hartwick Hawks came out and took control early in the first set. They would claim the first match point, 1-0, by a score of 25-17 in the first. Hartwick capitalized on its momentum to pull out a 25-21 win in the second, going up 2-0.
With their backs against the wall, the Golden Eagles would bounce back with a win in the third. A nice run early in the set allowed Brockport to take the win, 25-21, avoiding the sweep.
The final round of the bout saw the two E8 foes go back and forth, before Hartwick edged out the win, 25-23. The Hawks escaped with the 3-1 win to close out the regular season, taking the No. 2 seed as Brockport gets the No. 3 seed for the E8 Tournament.
Alenna Williamson gave a strong effort with 13 kills on 22 attacks (.409 pct) to go with a pair of block assists.
Luba Butcher and
Madisen Jones both contributed to the offensive attack with 10 kills each.
Ana Parella chipped in as well with nine kills in the match.
Butcher also added in one solo block, two block assists, and four digs. Jones included one solo block, one block assist, and six digs to her line. Parella had two block assists, while
Alexis Sison (6 kills) got up for one as well.
The offense ran through
Kaitlyn Jewett as the setter all match. She racked up 39 assists for the Green and Gold to go with a pair of sneaky kills.
Gianna Felipe led the squad with 14 digs as the Brockport libero. Sison contributed to the effort with 12 digs, while Jewett had eight, and
Grace Ippoliti had six.
Felipe, Sison, Jewett, Ipoliti, and Williamson all had one ace while on the serve for Brockport.
The Golden Eagles are now locked in at the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Sage for the Empire 8 1
st Round matchup on Saturday, November 8
