Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team, riding high after an explosive road start to the season, is set to continue its early road stretch. The Golden Eagles (1-0) will travel to face the Oswego Lakers on Tuesday, November 18th, at 7 p.m.
The Green and Gold kicked off the 2025-26 campaign with a high-octane 96-87 victory over the Ithaca Bombers on November 8th. The Golden Eagles' relentless defensive pressure, which resulted in 18 total steals and 31 points off of 31 Ithaca turnovers, proved to be the winning formula.
Season Opener Recap: Brockport displayed a balanced and deep attack in the season opener, demonstrating the style of play the team plans to employ on the road. The Golden Eagles will rely on the scoring prowess and experience of their leaders, starting with senior
Zachary Rice, who opened the year by leading all scorers with 21 points, including three shots from long range (3-7 3pt).
In the paint,
Jacob Oka established an immediate dominant presence. The Golden Eagles will look to Oka to control the boards against Oswego after he recorded an impressive double-double with 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds in the opener.
The team's success was boosted by vital contributions from newcomers, signaling a deep rotation for the road trip. Transfers
Camron Dyer (13 points, four steals) and
Marco Evans (12 points on 6-9 shooting) provided immediate high-impact play. Defensively, transfer
Omar White earned a start and played a huge factor in the team's relentless pressure, picking up four steals, to go along with six points and four rebounds—a defensive focus Brockport will aim to maintain against the Lakers. Brockport's ability to generate easy points, having scored 56 points in the paint against Ithaca, will be critical against the Lakers' defense.
Co-Rookie of the Week: Freshman guard
Pharell Aybar has immediately established himself as a player to watch on the Golden Eagles' squad. Following his exceptional collegiate debut, Aybar was named the Empire 8 Co-Rookie of the Week. Brockport expects his playmaking and defensive intensity to travel well as they hit the road. In the season opener, Aybar scored 19 points on an efficient 55.6% shooting and remained perfect from the free-throw line (8-8 FT), where he was clutch in the final minutes. Furthermore, his defensive prowess was immediately apparent, as he tallied an astonishing seven steals—a number that Oswego will certainly be mindful of.
Scouting the Lakers: The Oswego Lakers enter Tuesday night's contest standing at 3-1 on the season and are currently coming off a two-game home winning streak. In their most recent outing, the Lakers secured a notable 77-66 victory, handing Nazareth their first loss of the season. Brockport will need to be prepared for a tough road test against a Lakers team that has recently demonstrated its potential for high-level, winning play.
