Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jean-Baptiste's 25 Point Outing Leads Brockport Past Ithaca, 80-75

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team defeated Ithaca College, 80-75, on day two of the 58 Main BBQ & Brew Tip-Off Classic on Saturday, November 22nd. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-3 on the season following the win, finishing 2-0 in the 58 Main BBQ & Brew Tip-Off Classic.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was electric for the Golden Eagles, leading all players with 25 points and four steals. Jean-Baptiste was dynamic throughout, tying Claire Turner with a team-high nine rebounds (7 OREB). The senior from Jersey City, NJ, was named to the 58 Main BBQ Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament team, averaging 23 points, 9.5 rebounds, and three steals in an excellent weekend of play.

The Golden Eagle offense started strong, riding 58% shooting from the floor (10-17) to take a 24-21 lead into the second quarter. Despite shooting just 7-18 in the quarter, five made three pointers would keep the Bombers within striking distance entering the second quarter.

The second quarter would see both defenses prevail, with both teams shooting under 40% in the period. Brockport's defense would gain the edge in the quarter, holding Ithaca to just 11 points on 22.7% shooting to take an eight-point lead into halftime.

The Bombers would threaten the Golden Eagles' advantage, tying the game at 47-47 with 4:08 left in the third. Late free throws from Jackie Kozakiewicz and a Jean-Baptiste put-back would keep Brockport ahead 61-58 entering the final frame.

Ithaca would come out firing to begin the fourth quarter, drilling a three-pointer to take a 63-61 lead with eight minutes remaining. With multiple lead changes in the fourth, clutch buckets from Brianna Carey, Mandy Brink, Claire Turner, and SJB would secure the victory for the Green and Gold.

Brianna Carey provided a strong two-way effort, scoring 13 points with three steals and four rebounds in another strong showing.

Mandy Brink rounded out the double-digit scorers for Brockport, dropping 10 points with four rebounds and three assists.

Claire Turner added a gutsy effort on the glass, snatching a team high nine rebounds with five points (2-3) and two blocks.

Josie Wray maximized her minutes, shooting a perfect two-for-two for six points, adding three rebounds in just five minutes of action.

Up Next: Brockport will look to stay hot at home against RIT on Tuesday, December 2nd, at 6 PM.
