Brockport, NY – The men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened up the 2025-26 season at the Houghton December Classic and posted strong results.
Men's Team –
Starting the day with impressive finishes in the 5000m race was JJ Montemaro, clinching third with a time of 15:40.88, and Caleb Belanger finishing just one place later in fourth at 15:47.57.
In the mile, Hunter Shanahan had a day, taking fifth place with a time of 4:37.44. Joseph Massett finished shortly after in 11
th, crossing the line at 4:44.84.
Jeremy Chen dominated in the 60m hurdles, taking first place at an AARTFC qualifying time of 8.36 seconds. Nick Puma also provided a strong effort, taking third at 8.61 seconds.
In the men's 400m, Ayden Grinion hustled for third place at 51.05 seconds. Malakye Moss finished shortly after in 51.58 seconds.
In the finals of the 60m sprint, Derek Grimshaw fought for a strong second place at an AARTFC qualifying time of 6.90 seconds.
Tim Smith had a dominating finish in the 800m, taking second at an AARTFC qualifying time of 1:55.77. Frank Calhoun took fifth with a time of 1:59.85, and Brayden Mahoney finished at 2:00.43.
In the men's 200m sprint, Derek Grimshaw had an impressive sixth-place finish at 22.63 seconds. Aaron Fraisar finished up in ninth place with a time of 22.81, Cole Ferris took 11
th with a time of 22.89 seconds, and Jeremy Chen took 12
th at 22.99 seconds.
Benjamin Betrus had himself a day in the 3000m, taking sixth place, crossing the line at 9:28.66.
The Golden Eagles showed out on top in the pole vault with Gabriel Giannini taking first at 4.65m, Daniel Reinhart taking second at 4.45m, and Corey Suhr finishing in third at 4.00m.
In the men's high jump, Cardin Chau had a day taking first with a 1.97m jump. Dillon Murphy took sixth at 1.83m, and Jack Galley and Jake Galley tied for seventh at 1.78m.
Taking first and second in the long jump were Dennis Bobbitt with an impressive 7.28m jump, and Gabe Giannini at 7.20 meters.
Dennis Bobbitt also made a statement in the triple jump, taking first with a 14.86m jump.
Finishing out the day in the men's weight throw was Mitchell Ellsworth, taking first at 16.19m. Duncan Harbin clinched third at 15.44m, Hunter Richards took fifth at 14.15m, and Allen Reome had a sixth place spot at 14.00m
Women's Team –
Salma Moumen started the meet strong, taking first place in the 5000m with an AARTFC qualifying time of 18:40.52.
In the final round of the women's 60m hurdles,
Lily Rexford finished in a strong sixth place at a mark of 10.22 seconds.
In the 400m race,
Courtney Bostic and
Monica Cammarota finished just two places apart in fifth and sixth, with Bostic at 1:02.09 and Cammarota at 1:02.43.
Clinching a third-place spot in the 600m was
Ariana Proper at a mark of 1:43.83.
Aaliyah Wright took seventh at 1:46.26, and
Salvatrice Piccolo took ninth at 1:49.32.
Camryn Jacob and Taylor Nugent finished in third and fifth in the 800m, with Jacob crossing the line at 2:29.54 and Nugent at 2:31.71.
In the 200m,
Courtney Bostic finished in sixth place at 27.11 seconds.
Chelsea Reynolds took 13
th at a time of 27.91 seconds, and Meghan Muscarella finished in 14
th at 27.93 seconds.
Finishing in first place in the 3000m was
Ethne Degan with a dominating AARTFC qualifying time of 10:29.70.
In the women's high jump,
Katie Pavelchak made a strong effort to take fourth place at 1.39m.
Taking second in the shot put was
Trinity Dees with a 12.65m throw. Bella Rivera tossed a 10.75m throw, good for 5
th place,
Savana Henry threw for 10.39m, good for sixth place, and
Rhian Crowley had a 10.36m throw, landing seventh overall.
In the women's weight throw,
Rhian Crowley took fourth with a 14.33m throw, and Bella Rivera finished in fifth at 13.94m.

th as they host the Brockport Invitational at the SERC at 10 am.
