Men's Basketball Ends Regular Season with Home Victory

Brockport, NY - SUNY Brockport secured a victory over SUNY Geneseo with a final score of 87-73 on Tuesday. With this win, Brockport ends the regular season at 16-9 overall and 14-2 in Empire 8 play. As the E8 Regular Season Champions, the Golden Eagles will enter the postseason as the No. 1 seed.

Tony Arnold led the defensive effort for SUNY Brockport, recording four steals in their recent game.

Colby Jordan was the primary playmaker, dishing out nine assists while also contributing five rebounds. 

Zachary Rice was the team's leading scorer with 16 points, adding one block to his performance. 

Mekhi Beckett excelled from beyond the arc, hitting three out of five 3-point attempts. 

Jakhi Lucas matched Rice with five baskets and contributed to the defensive side with two steals.

In the first half, our team, SUNY Brockport, established a strong offensive presence, taking an early lead with a series of successful plays. Alex Tavarez contributed significantly with a three-pointer at 10:10 and a defensive rebound at 6:34, while Tony Arnold consistently played a pivotal role with key jumpers and assists. Zachary Rice and Christian Amica were instrumental in maintaining the lead, with Amica sinking a three-pointer at 6:53 and Rice adding a layup at 2:14, helping SUNY Brockport finish the half ahead 40-35.

In the second half, SUNY Brockport expanded its lead over the Knights with notable contributions from Zachary Rice and Jakhi Lucas. Rice was effective on both ends, securing defensive rebounds at 18:15 and 14:12, while also making crucial free throws at 14:06 to push the score to 55-45. Lucas made a significant impact by scoring a layup at 15:06 and later converting free throws at 1:17, contributing to the team's offensive momentum. The half saw Brockport outscoring Geneseo 47-38, highlighted by a strong finish with Tony Arnold's fast-break layup at 2:39 and Colby Jordan's fast-break layup at 2:19, cementing their lead.

Brockport will host a first round game for the E8 Tournament on Saturday, February 22nd. Time and opponent have yet to be determined.
