Brockport Hosts Geneseo for Play4Kay Game to Decide E8 Regular Season Title

Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's basketball team will close out the regular season at home against Geneseo for Play4Kay on Tuesday, February 18th, at 5:30 p.m.  Tuesday's contest will crown the regular season champion of the Empire 8 conference.

Play4Kay: Tuesday night is the annual Play4Kay game for the Golden Eagles, as they are one of many teams around the country participating in the yearly fundraiser. Started by Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow from NC State, she began Play4Kay to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women.

Uniting playerscoachesofficials, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition, the Play4Kay initiative is the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation's largest fundraiser and plays a major role in the fight against cancer.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles snuck past Houghton on the road, 75-72, on Saturday, February 15th. The Golden Eagles moved to 21-3 overall and 14-1 in E8 play following the win.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was excellent for Brockport, leading the squad with 26 points and five steals, adding three rebounds and three assists.

Cam Tooley provided another efficient outing, scoring 16 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor, adding seven rebounds and four assists.

Shannon Blankenship rounded out the double-digit scorers for Brockport, scoring 13 points on 3-4 shooting from deep with four steals.

Postseason Scenarios: With the winner of Tuesday's contest earning the #1 seed in the E8 tournament, the Golden Eagles can finish as low as the #3 seed. With St. John Fisher (12-2) holding a head-to-head tiebreaker with Brockport, a Fisher win and Brockport loss would drop the Golden Eagles to the #3 seed. Losses by both Brockport and St. John Fisher would earn Brockport the #2 seed in the Empire 8 tournament.

Less is More: Attempting just 12 field goals across two outings last week, Cam Tooley was instrumental in Brockport's 2-0 weekend. Tooley would finish the weekend averaging 14.5 points on 66% shooting with 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Tooley has provided 11+ points and 7+ rebounds in each of her last five outings.

Scouting Geneseo: The Knights sit at 19-5 overall with a 14-1 record in Empire 8 play. Following Geneseo's 73-72 loss to Brockport on January 28th, the Knights have rattled off six straight wins.  The Golden Eagles hope to extend its winning streak against Geneseo to three straight.

Up Next: Brockport will host the opening round of the Empire 8 tournament on Saturday, February 22nd, with the time and opponent still to be determined.
