Golden Eagles Offense Nets 14 Runs, Baseball Downs Wilson 14-9

Brockport, NY- The Brockport baseball team earned a 14-9 win over Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA on Sunday, February 23rd. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-0 to begin the season following the victory.
 
Zach Eldred continued his excellent start to the season, smacking an RBI single to put Brockport up 1-0 in the top of the first. In just three games, Eldred has already posted two home runs and 9 RBIs with 12 total bases.
 
The Golden Eagle's offense would explode for seven runs in the third to expand the lead to 8-0, highlighted by Kyle Blake and Frank Vanzillotta's two RBI singles.
 
Wilson would bounce back in a big way, scoring six unanswered runs between the third and fourth innings to cut the Brockport lead to 8-6.
 
With the bases loaded, Jason Story would empty them with a clutch 3RBI double to expand the Brockport lead to 11-6. Wilson would continue to hang tight, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Golden Eagle lead to three runs (11-8).
 
The Brockport bats would have another rebuttal in the ninth. Jason Story drove in a run with a fielder's choice before Kyle Blake would deliver another two-RBI single to put Brockport up 14-8.
 
Wilson would threaten with a run in the ninth, but Nick Ianniello would shut the door for a 14-9 Brockport win.   
 
Frank Vanzillotta would reach base safely five times (1H, 4BB), scoring four times and driving in two runs.
 
Kyle Blake and Jason Story each recorded four RBIs, putting Story up to seven RBIs in the young season.
 
Thomas DiGirolomo (W, 1-0) tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn his first win as a Golden Eagle.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will head back to Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 1st, to take on Lebanon Valley in doubleheader action. The doubleheader in Annville, PA, is scheduled for Noon/3 p.m.
