Baseball Soars Past Lebanon Valley in Doubleheader Action

Brockport, NY- The Brockport baseball team swept Lebanon Valley in Saturday's doubleheader on March 1st. The Golden Eagles improved to 5-0 to begin the season following the win.
 
Game One: Brockport 11- Lebanon Valley 4 (7 innings)
 
The Golden Eagles offense would bat around in the first inning, bringing in six runs to open the contest. Zach Eldred got the party started with an RBI single to score Josh Index before Jason Story emptied the bases with a three-run homer to put Brockport up 4-0 early. Adding to the lead, both Jason Mansell and Timothy Venditti would add RBI singles to increase the lead to 6-0.
 
The Flying Dutchman would score in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 6-1 before the Brockport offense would strike again. The Golden Eagles would net five runs between the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth inning, Eldred would strike again with an RBI double before Kyle Blake would score Eldred with an RBI single to go up 8-1.
 
The onslaught would continue for Lebanon Valley, with Nick Mahar launching a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. Eldred would grab his third RBI of the day, doubling home Josh Index in the fifth before Venditti's RBI single in the sixth would round out the scoring for Brockport.
 
Zach Eldred (W, 1-0) did it all for Brockport, pitching five innings of one-run baseball with six punchouts. At the plate, Eldred went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, continuing his excellent start.
 
Thomas DiGirolomo shut the door for Brockport, allowing just one baserunner with no hits and two strikeouts.
 
The Golden Eagles would draw nine walks in seven innings of play, with Frank Vanzillotta leading the way with three walks.  
 
Game Two: Brockport 11 – Lebanon Valley 4
 
Brockport's offense would jump out to another hot start, netting three runs in the top of the first. Josh Index would open the scoring with an RBI single to left field, with Kyle Blake following up with a two-RBI single of his own. Blake would strike again in the third, smacking a ground-rule double to score Zach Eldred and expand the lead to 4-0.
 
The Flying Dutchman would score the contest's next three runs to cut Brockport's lead to 4-3. Lebanon Valley would take advantage of a Brockport error to score a pair of unearned runs. Much like game one, the Golden Eagles offense would take over the contest.
 
Brockport would score the contest's next seven runs, highlighted by Timothy Venditti's two RBI triple and RBI hits from Ryan Lenic and James Dixon.
 
Lebanon Valley would add a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 11-4, but Nick Ianniello would shut the door for the win.
 
Anthony Lapine would pick up the win, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
 
Zach Eldred and Kyle Blake would lead Brockport with three runs each.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will head to Ohio to take on Wooster in doubleheader action on Saturday, March 8th. Game one is scheduled for noon, with the first pitch for game two set for 3 p.m.
