Brockport Upset by SUNY Poly in E8 Semifinals

Brockport, NY - SUNY Brockport (17-10) fell to the SUNY Poly Wildcats (18-9) with a final score of 92-89 on Wednesday in the E8 Semifinals. With the loss, the Golden Eagles' season comes to an end as they are eliminated from the postseason. They finish the year 17-10 overall after going 14-2 in E8 play.

Alex Tavarez led the SUNY Brockport basketball team with a career-high 31 points, making 11 of 20 basket attempts and shooting 9 of 13 from the free throw line. He scored 21 points in the first half to lead the way offensively.

Mekhi Beckett contributed significantly with 14 points, hitting 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. Colby Jordan excelled in playmaking, leading the team with 5 assists and securing 5 rebounds.

Tony Arnold was defensively active with 3 steals, while Jacob Oka provided a strong defensive presence with 3 blocks.

In the first half, SUNY Brockport took an early lead with Alex Tavarez scoring the opening points on a layup at 19:40 and contributing a total of 15 points in the half. Zachary Rice made a significant impact by hitting multiple 3-pointers, including a fast-break three at 18:44, and grabbing key rebounds. Tony Arnold was active defensively, securing several steals and contributing offensively with a layup at 5:43, helping Brockport maintain their lead. Despite efforts from the Wildcats, Brockport ended the half ahead with a score of 48-43.

In the second half, SUNY Brockport maintained a competitive edge against the Wildcats. Nathaniel Gordon contributed significantly with key layups at 18:05 and 17:35, helping Brockport maintain a narrow lead. Mekhi Beckett was also instrumental, scoring a 3-pointer at 14:47 and again at 11:13, boosting the team's momentum. Despite a strong push from the Wildcats, including a series of scores by Anthony Rose, Brockport's efforts, particularly in securing rebounds and scoring off free throws, kept them in the contest until the closing seconds.

SUNY Poly will travel to play Utica on Saturday, March 1st for the Empire 8 Championship.
