Men's Indoor T&F Sits in Second After Day 1 of E8's, Women Hold Third

Brockport, NY – The men's and women's indoor track and field teams brought the heat today in day 1 of the Empire 8 Championships at Utica. The men currently sit at second place with 62.5 points and the women are third with 49 points. 

Men's Team:
In the men's heptathlon, Gabe Giannini is currently in first place with 2716 points and Tyler Miller sits in fifth with 2380 points following day 1. 

In the men's heptathlon 60m, Giannini had a strong race taking first at just 7.12 seconds with Miller finishing in fourth at 7.42 seconds. 

Giannini had another first place finish in the heptathlon long jump with a far jump of 6.90m. Miller took fourth at 6.38m. 

Clinching a third-place finish in the heptathlon shot put was Miller with a 10.22m throw with Giannini coming in fifth from a 10.13m throw. 

Concluding the first day of the men's heptathlon with a third-place finish in the high jump was Giannini at 1.76m. 

Jonathan Zavala had himself a day in the men's mile finishing strong in first place at a time of 4:10.28. This pace set a new facility record, meet record, and Empire 8 Conference record for the men's indoor mile. 

Making a mark on the board at 49.61 seconds in the men's 400 was Ayden Grinion, good for a third-place finish. 

In the men's 5000m race, Patrick Klinger and Jared Smith took fifth and sixth with Klinger at 14:58.95 and Smith shortly after at 15:07.57. 

Nick Wright had a strong throw in the men's shotput at 14.23m, good for a seventh-place finish. Mitchell Ellsworth placed one spot after in eighth from a 14.18m throw. 

The men had a day in the long jump with Gabe Giannini taking third at 6.80m, Bryce Roberts placing fourth at 6.64m, Howard Nix in fifth at 6.64m and Dennis Bobbitt coming in sixth from a 6.61m leap. 

Finishing out the day in the men's pole vault was Gabe Giannini taking second place at 4.60m and Daniel Reinhart just two places later in fourth clearing the pole at 4.45m.m
 
Women's Team: 
Starting out the day strong in the women's mile was Mia Vizcaino with a hard earned second place crossing the line at 5:05.08. Jaylah Cossin finished up two seconds after at 5:07.76, good for fourth place. 

Marissa Wise had a dominating second place finish in the women's 400 making her mark at 57.98 seconds with Alexis Rodriguez taking third at 59.49 seconds. 

In the women's pole vault, Mya Henry cleared the pole at 3.17m, good for seventh place with Isabel Swyers just one place later in eighth at 3.17m. 

Rebecca Heuler clinched a third-place spot in the shotput from a 12.15m throw. Trinity Dees took sixth on the day from an 11.73m throw. 

Ending the day in the long jump was Sasha Schramm taking third from a far 5.42m jump. 

Day 2 – The Golden Eagles will continue the competition tomorrow at Utica for day 2 of the E8 Championships starting at 10am.
