Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team fell to Oswego State at home on Wednesday, 10-5. Brockport moves to 2-3 overall on the season following the loss to the visiting Lakers.
With gametime set for 4pm, the Golden Eagles would jump onto the scoreboard first in the opening period. They took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, with both goals coming from
Jack Rice (unassisted).
Brockport held that 2-goal lead going into the second quarter.
Carson Colucci received an assist from
Marc Zappulla that made it a 3-0 lead for the Golden Eagles early in the second. However, the Lakers would respond in a big way before halftime.
Oswego rattled off six straight goals in the second period to storm back and take a lead at halftime. The Lakers went up 6-3 at the break following a 6-1 showing in the second quarter.
Although Brockport trailed, 6-3, the squad came out firing early in the third looking to even the score up.
Carson Colucci scored his second of the contest, this time from a
Nate Askin assist in the third quarter. Late in the quarter,
Marc Zappulla scored from a
Nick Maslin assist. Oswego held onto a slim, 6-5, lead going into the final frame.
The fourth quarter belonged to the visiting Lakers, as they won the period 4-0 to clinch the victory, 10-5. They shined on the stat sheet with a 17-2 showing in faceoffs, 27-12 advantage in ground balls, and went 17-for-18 on clear attempts.
Brockport's goalie,
Jack Acker came up with 19 saves in net for the game. As a team the Golden Eagles committed three less turnovers than Oswego and went 20-for-27 on clears on the day.
Brockport is back on the road this weekend for some more non-conference action. The squad will take on Allegheny College for a 1pm start on Saturday, March 15
th.
