Zavala Moves on to Finals in Men's Mile, Giannini Finishes Up Dominating Season

Brockport, NY – Jonathan Zavala and Gabriel Giannini finished up day one at the NCAA Division III Championships at Nazareth today while also looking to secure All-American. 

Jonathan Zavala competed in the preliminary round of the men's mile where he dominated in the race taking first place at a time of 4:10.80. This time and place will move him on to the final round tomorrow starting at 4:00pm. To achieve an All-American honor, Zavala must secure an eighth-place finish or better.  

Gabe Giannini's strong season came to an end in the long jump where he finished up the day in the men's long jump prelims in 18th place from a 6.88m jump. Giannini had an impressive season with the Golden Eagles, taking third all-time in the long jump. He also dominated in the heptathlon finishing second all-time with 4,753 points and accumulated three E8 Field Athlete of the Week honors throughout. 

Day 2 – Tomorrow, Friday, March 14th, Zavala looks to achieve All-American status in the mile starting at 4:00pm.
