Softball Drops Pair of Contests on Sunday in Florida

Kissimmee, FL – The SUNY Brockport softball team lost a pair of games on day two of the spring trip to Florida, moving to 1-3 overall through four outings. The Golden Eagles fell to Farmingdale State, 12-1, and St. Lawrence, 5-4.
 
Brockport 1, Farmingdale 12 – Game 1 Final
 
Hadley Alguire (L, 0-1) got the start for Brockport on Sunday morning, going 3.0 innings with one strikeout in a loss. Laina Beer and Fiona Gibiser each pitched one inning as well in the game.
 
Caitlyn Dailey provided the team's lone hit offensively in the contest, going 1-for-2 against the Rams. Ciara Olivo pinch ran for Dailey and ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly from Kellie Gentile.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Farmingdale State took a 2-0 lead in the second. The Rams and the Golden Eagles both scored one run in the third, making a 3-1 game going into the fourth. The fifth inning saw the game come to an end with a 9-run at-bat for the Rams.
 
Brockport 4, St. Lawrence 5 – Game 2 Final
 
Colleen Davis (L, 0-2) pitched the first complete game of her young career on Saturday against the St. Lawrence Saints. She went 6.0 innings with three strikeouts in a losing effort.
 
Offensively the Golden Eagles saw Kellie Gentile (2-3, 2 RBIs), Teresa Cotty (2-3), and Caitlyn Dailey (2-4) all connected for a pair of hits. Gentile and Cotty registered doubles, while all three scored one run for the squad.
 
Olivia Simone made an impact at the plate with a 1-for-3 effort to go with an RBI and a run scored. Cece Rappleyea also knocked in a Golden Eagle run, going 1-for-4 with one RBI. Paige Wentland got involved with one run as well and she went 1-for-4 at the dish.
 
In 12 plate appearances, the top of the Brockport lineup combined for five hits, two runs, three runs batted in, and three walks.
 
The first inning saw the Golden Eagles jump out to a 2-1 lead thanks to RBIs from Simone and Rappleyea. Gentile brought another run home in the second to put them up 3-1 early. Gentile struck again with an RBI double in the fifth.
 
Trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the St. Lawrence Saints rallied offensively. With four runs in the inning, they came back to take a 5-4 lead heading into the sixth. With neither team adding to their tallies, the Saints narrowly escaped with a 1-run victory.
 
With Monday being an off-day in the schedule down in Florida, the Golden Eagles get back to the field on Tuesday (March 18th). They will be at the Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, FL for matchups against Wooster at 11:30am and Plattsburgh at 4:15pm.
