Golden Eagles Rally in Extras Against Plattsburgh to Split on Tuesday

Clermont, FL – On Tuesday, the Brockport softball team split a pair of games at the Legends Way Ballfields. The Golden Eagles lost a close, 4-1, game to Wooster early on, and then came back to pull out a 5-3 win over Plattsburgh in 8 innings.

Brockport 1, Wooster 4 – Game 1 Final

Colleen Davis (L, 0-3) threw the second complete game of her young collegiate career against Wooster. Going the full 7.0 innings, Davis allowed four earned runs and struck out a career-high four batters.

Caitlyn Dailey did well at the plate in the loss, going 2-for-3 while scoring the team's lone run of the contest. Jackie DuTot (1-4), Teresa Cotty (1-2), Grace Talbut (1-3), and Aubrey Ennis (1-3) all registered hits for the Green and Gold.

Wooster got the scoring started with a solo homer in the second inning, and then went up 3-0 in the third. In the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles would put an end to the shutout. Olivia Simone was able to bring Dailey home to make it a 3-1 game.

Brockport's defense kept it close, but the Scots were able to hold up defensively as well down the stretch. One last run for Wooster in the seventh inning put the game away, 4-1.

Brockport 5, Plattsburgh 3 – Game 2 Final

Laina Beer (W, 2-0) threw a great game as the starter for Brockport in a winning effort, earning her second victory of the season so far. She went 7.2 innings, allowed just one earned run, and had three strikeouts.

Colleen Davis (S, 1) received credit for the first save of her collegiate career. In a crucial moment, the freshman pitcher was able to get the final out for the Golden Eagles to seal the deal in the bottom of the eighth.

Olivia Simone gave the Cardinals a headache while at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the contest with a pair of RBIs. She roped an RBI triple into center field and brought another run in to score on a sac fly.

Aubrey Ennis also knocked in two runs while going 1-for-3 in the game. Isabella Moya got credit for an RBI as well, going 1-for-1 with a run scored. Riley Barrett contributed with a 1-for-3 effort that led to two runs scored for the Golden Eagles.

Both pitchers and both defenses made key plays throughout, as the fans saw just a 1-0 score through five innings. The Plattsburgh Cardinals led going into the top of the sixth, but Brockport got the bats going.

Barrett was able to draw a walk and quickly came in to score thanks to Simone's triple, tying the score at 1-1. Soon after, Ennis flied out to left field which brought Simone home to score. Brockport went up 2-1, but Plattsburgh tied the game at 2-2  to send the contest to extras.

The Golden Eagles got clutch plate appearances from Moya, Barrett, Simone, and Ennis in the top of the eighth. The group led a key 3-run rally for the squad that ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.

Beer almost went the full 8 innings, but was relieved by Davis with the bases loaded, two outs, and Plattsburgh's potential  game-winning run at the plate. After the Cardinals scored one run to make it 5-3, Davis stepped in and threw one pitch to record the final out.

Brockport will be back at the Legends Way Ballfields on Wednesday for another doubleheader set of action. The Golden Eagles take on Augsburg at 11:15am and then they will face Knox at 4:15pm.
