Brockport, NY- The Brockport baseball team continued rolling in Florida, defeating former conference foe Fredonia 10-2 from Davenport, NY, on Wednesday, March 19
th. Brockport moves to 11-1 on the season and currently receives votes in the D3baseball.com and ABCA Coaches Top-25 polls.
Tyler Pohlman (W, 1-0) set the tone with an excellent start, pitching 6.1 innings of one-run baseball with eight punchouts.
Zach Eldred posted a performance to remember, smacking a solo shot to left field in the first inning to put Brockport up 1-0. Eldred would finish the contest a double short of the cycle, going 3-4 with four RBIs.
The Blue Devils would level the contest at 1-1, with Schraufst going yard for Fredonia in the top of the third.
Brockport would break through in the middle of the contest, plating seven runs between the fourth and sixth innings. Following a
Kyle Blake RBI groundout,
Nick Mahar would bring home two more in the fourth with a two-run double before
Timothy Venditti would plate Mahar with an RBI single to increase the lead to 5-1.
Directly following an Eldred sacrifice fly in the fifth inning,
Jason Story would connect for a solo homer to expand the advantage to 8-1 entering the sixth.
Eldred and Story would power the offense late for Brockport, with a Story sacrifice fly in the sixth and an Eldred two-RBI single rounding out the scoring for Brockport.
Fredonia would tack on a run in the top of the ninth, but
Connor Villano would shut the door to give Brockport a 10-2 victory.
Nick Mahar had a big day for Brockport going two for three with a walk and two RBIs (1R).
Josh Indek would finish the day with three runs scored, going one for four at the plate (BB).
Jason Story provided the power for Brockport, diving in two runs and scoring twice with a home run (1-4, BB).
