Brockport Finishes Florida Trip with 5th Consecutive Victory

Leesburg, FL – On the final day down in Florida for The Spring Games, the Golden Eagle softball team swept the two-game slate once again. They defeated both McDaniel College and Keene State, extending the win streak to five while jumping to 6-4 on the season.
 
Brockport 10, McDaniel 7 – Game 1 Final
 
The Green and Gold had the bats going against the Green Terror, connecting for 11 hits (4 doubles) with three players having multiples in the game.
 
Aubrey Ennis went 3-for-4 at the dish with two RBIs and a run scored. Cece Rappleyea was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, one double, and a run scored. Olivia Simone put forth a 2-for-3 effort in the game with a double, one RBI, and one run.
 
The squad also saw key hits from Scout Preston (1-1, 1 RBI), Teresa Cotty (1-3, 2B), Paige Wentland (1-2), and Reagan Myers (1-3, 2 RBIs). Erin Dougherty scored a pair of runs for Brockport after drawing a pair of walks.
 
Colleen Davis (W, 1-3) picked up the first win of her collegiate career in the contest. Going the distance for her third complete game of the season already, she finished with four strikeouts.
 
Brockport took an early 1-0 lead in the first and it took McDaniel until the fourth to tie the score up at 1-1. The Green and Gold responded with three in the fourth and one more in the fifth to jump out to a 5-1 lead.
 
The Green Terror attempted to roar back late with six runs in the final two innings, but the Golden Eagles had a response once again. They scored five runs in the sixth to setup Davis for the 10-7 win to start the day.
 
Brockport 11, Keene State 10 – Game 2 Final
 
Game two of the day was a back and forth affair, which saw the two teams combine for 21 runs on 31 hits. With 16 in the win, Brockport has now connected for 11 or more hits in four straight games.
 
Aubrey Ennis and Olivia Simone lit it up to continue their stellar day offensively. Ennis went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Simone also went 4-for-5, connecting for one triple, one double, three RBIs, and she scored four runs.
 
Junior Erin Dougherty added to the offensive explosion with a 2-for-4 showing that included a double, one RBI, and two runs scored. Paige Wentland matched her teammate with a 2-for-4 outing to go with one RBI.
 
More Golden Eagles rattled off hits in the contest including: Teresa Cotty (1-5, 1 RBI), Caitlyn Dailey (1-4, 1 RBI), and Reagan Myers (1-3). Cece Rappleyea scored two runs and Ciara Olivo came home to score one as well.
 
A trio of pitchers took their turn on the diamond for the Green and Gold. Fiona Gibiser got the start, going 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. Hadley Alguire stepped into the circle in the third, throwing 1.2 innings during her shift. Colleen Davis (W, 2-3) finished out the final 3.0 innings, earning her second win of the day.
 
The basepaths were busy right from the get go as Brockport and Keene State each scored three runs in the first inning. In the top of the second, the Golden Eagles scored three more to jump out to a 6-3 lead.
 
The Owls responded in the third with three of their own to tie the game up going into the fourth. They were unable to keep Brockport from responding with another pair of runs to make it an 8-6 score. In the bottom of the fourth, Keene State bounced back with three runs to take a 9-8 lead.
 
Trailing for the first time all day, Brockport fought back with one run in the fifth to tie the score up at 9-9 going into the bottom of five. The squad scored one in the sixth and one more in the seventh to go up 11-9. Keene State brought a run in to score in the bottom of seven, but the Golden Eagles held the Owls off to squeeze out the 11-10 win.
 
Brockport is riding high to conclude the trip down south, winning five straight with 10 or more runs in four consecutive contests. It marks the team's longest win streak since 2020 (8 in a row).
 
Heading back up north now, the Golden Eagles have just one matchup prior to the start of Empire 8 play. They will travel to take on Buffalo State for a doubleheader on Thursday, March 27th. Game one of the non-conference set is scheduled for a 3pm start out in Buffalo, NY.
