Baseball Defeats Keuka 9-1, Posts Best 15 Game Start in Program History

Brockport, NY- The Brockport baseball team finished its Florida trip with a 7-1 win over Keuka College on Saturday, March 22nd. The Golden Eagles improved to 14-1 overall and 3-0 in Empire 8 after the win. Brockport's 14-1 record across its first 15 games serves as the best start in program history.
 
Zach Eldred (W, 3-0) rolled through the Keuka lineup, recording a career-high 13 punchouts with just one run allowed across seven innings of work.
 
Kyle Blake got the offense started in the first inning, launching a sacrifice fly to put Brockport up 1-0.
 
Following a Keuka response to tie the game at 1-1, Blake would strike again in the third inning. Blake would pick up his second RBI of the day with an RBI single to put Brockport back ahead 2-1.
 
Both pitchers would dominate the middle of the contest with scoreless 4th-6th innings, with Brockport finally breaking through in the seventh inning.
 
Jason Story would hustle to beat out a double play ball in the seventh, scoring Frank Vanzillotta and adding to Brockport's lead at 3-1.
 
The Golden Eagles would finally run away in the ninth inning, plating four runs thanks to RBI hits from Ryan Lenic, Josh Index, Jason Story, and a Blake RBI groundout.
 
Eric Servellon (S,2) closed out the contest for Brockport, tossing two hitless innings with three strikeouts.
 
Frank Vanzillotta would reach base safely four times for Brockport, going 2-3 with two walks and three runs scored.
 
The Brockport top of the order all posted two hits on the day, with Vanzillotta, Indek, Eldred, and Story all posting strong efforts.
 
Jason Mansell led Brockport with two stolen bases, going 1-5 at the plate.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will head to the University of Rochester for non-conference action on Wednesday, March 26th at 4 pm.
