Brockport, NY—The #25-ranked Brockport Baseball team fought to a 9-9 draw in 13 innings at Oneonta on Friday, March 18
th. Following the 13-inning tie, the Golden Eagles moved to 14-1-1 on the season.
The Red Dragons would control the majority of the contest, scoring the first four runs of the contest. Oneonta would connect for a trio of RBI singles in the fifth inning to expand their lead to 4-0.
Frank Vanzillotta opened the scoring for Brockport in the seventh, scoring
Victor Alongi on a RBI groundout to cut the Oneonta lead to 4-1.
The Red Dragons would respond in the bottom of the seventh, netting two runs from a single and a fielder's choice to expand the advantage to 6-1.
Needing five runs to force extras, the Golden Eagles would be up to the task.
Matt Mayer would start the rally with an RBI single, scoring
Chris Martin and cutting the lead to 6-1.
Erik Gersfeld's RBI hit by pitch would draw Brockport closer before
Zach Eldred's RBI single brought Brockport within two. Eldred moved one step closer to program history, tying the program record for consecutive games with a hit (19).
Following
Jason Story's RBI fielder's choice to bring Brockport within one,
Kyle Blake would connect in the clutch with an RBI single to tie the game at 6-6.
Both teams remained scoreless until the 13
th inning, which saw the Brockport offense come alive.
Kyle Blake would provide another clutch hit, ripping a double to give Brockport their first lead of the contest at 7-6.
Matthew Coon added much-needed insurance with a two-RBI single to `put Brockport up 9-6 entering the bottom of the 13
th inning.
Needing a hero in the 13
th inning
Nick Jacoby of Oneonta connected with a three-RBI double to bring the game to a 9-9 tie. The officials would call the game due to darkness following the final out of the 13
th inning.
Bryce Tyndell (0ER, 3K) and
Troy Leibert (0ER, 2K each posted strong outings out of the bullpen for Brockport.
Eldred, Blake, and
Victor Alongi all recorded three hits each, with Blake having a run and two RBI, while Coon added two RBI.
