Brockport Sweeps Keuka on the Road in E8 Doubleheader

Keuka Park, NY – The Golden Eagle softball team improved to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8 with a sweep of Keuka in Wednesday's doubleheader on the road. Brockport took game one, 7-5, then finished out the day with a 6-3 victory in game two.
 
Brockport 7, Keuka 5 – Game 1 Final
 
Olivia Simone was perfect at the plate, starting the doubleheader with a 4-for-4 showing that included a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Kellie Gentile (1-4) also scored two runs, hit a double, and had a pair of RBIs.
 
Aubrey Ennis went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the opening game of the set. Teresa Cotty went 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI as well. The Golden Eagles also got contributions offensively from Riley Barrett (1-2, 1 RBI), Cece Rappleyea (1-3, 1 run), and Natalie Faas (1-2).
 
Colleen Davis (W, 4-5) picked up her fourth win of the season as Brockport's starting pitcher in this one. Going the distance for her sixth complete game of the season, the freshman totaled 7.0 innings pitched, seven strikeouts, two walks, and just one earned run (4 unearned) in the contest.
 
In the top of the first inning, Brockport got right to work. Cotty knocked Simone home with an RBI double to take an early 1-0 lead.
 
In the second, the squad would go on to add three more runs. Gentile rocked the ball to right center field for a double that brought two runs in to score. Right after, Simone hit a double of her own to score Gentile to give Brockport a 4-0 lead.
 
Simone came back in the top of the fourth with another RBI double to score Gentile once again. The Golden Eagles held a 5-0 lead before Keuka got on the board in the sixth. The Wolves scored two on an RBI single to make it a 5-2 score going into the seventh.
 
In the top half of seven, Brockport added some cushion with a pair of runs. First up was an RBI single from Ennis to score Simone. Then Barrett singled to left field which allowed Erin Dougherty to come in for a run. Keuka attempted to rally in the bottom of seven, but the Golden Eagles held on for the 7-5 win.
 
Brockport 6, Keuka 3 – Game 2 Final
 
The second game of the set saw Hadley Alguire get the start at pitcher for the Golden Eagles. She went 3.0 innings, allowed four hits, three earned runs, and had three strikeouts.
 
Laina Beer (W, 3-1) got the win after going 2.0 innings without allowing any hits or runs and throwing a pair of strikeouts.
 
Colleen Davis (S, 2) came back out in this one to close the final 2.0 innings. Davis got the save after allowing no hits or runs to score with three strikeouts.
 
At the plate, Olivia Simone stayed hot going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Riley Barrett went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Teresa Cotty added a pair of RBIs with her 1-for-3 effort.
 
Reagan Myers contributed a 2-for-3 showing at the dish with one RBI. Erin Dougherty connected for a pair of hits, going 2-for-4 with one run. Brockport also saw hits from Aubrey Ennis (1-4), Paige Wentland (1-2), Grace Talbut (1-1, 2B), Kellie Gentile (1-3), and Caitlyn Dailey (1-3) in game two.
 
A pitchers battle early on, neither team was able to get on the scoreboard until the third inning. In the top of the third, Brockport got thing started with a run thanks to a fielding error from Keuka. It quickly turned into a 2-0 lead with an RBI bunt for a hit by Barrett. Myers then made it a 3-0 lead with a sacrifice fly out for an RBI.
 
The hometown Wolves were able to quickly respond in the bottom of the third. Keuka tied the game up at 3-3 heading into the fourth inning after a strong inning at the plate.
 
Barrett broke the tie for Brockport by batting home Ciara Olivo with an RBI single. The Green and Gold moved to the fifth inning with a 4-3 lead.
 
In the sixth, it was Cotty that added the insurance runs for Brockport. She rattled off a single that brought in two runs to score, pushing the Brockport lead to the game's final tally of 6-3.
 
Winners of four in a row, the Golden Eagles will return to their home field this weekend for a pair of key E8 doubleheaders. First up is Utica on Friday, set for a 2pm start to the set. Then on Saturday, Brockport will host SUNY Poly for a 1pm start to the doubleheader.
