Brockport, NY – Brockport softball was swept in a doubleheader at home against Utica in Empire 8 play on Sunday. The visiting Pioneers won game one, 10-3, and then took game two, 13-8. The Golden Eagles are now 10-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Brockport 3, Utica 10 – Game 1 Final
Colleen Davis (L, 4-8) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out two and walking two as the starter.
Hadley Alguire entered in relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up eight hits and four earned runs.
Paige Wentland led the Golden Eagles with a 3-for-4 effort in the game with one RBI.
Olivia Simone also made a notable contribution at the plate, going 2-for-4 and scoring a run.
Teresa Cotty drove in one run with a 1-for-4 outing.
Scout Preston made an impact as a pinch hitter, going 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Utica scored four runs in the first inning to establish some early momentum in the contest. The Golden Eagles held Utica scoreless in the second and third innings with some solid play on defense.
In the fifth inning, Brockport capitalized on a throwing error by Utica's third baseman, allowing
Riley Barrett (1-4) to score. Wentland added an RBI single, narrowing the gap to 5-2 after the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Brockport's
Natalie Faas (1-2) scored on a single from Preston, bringing the score to 6-3. However, Utica extended its lead with a four-run seventh inning to put the game away at 10-3.
Brockport 8, Utica 13 – Game 2 Final
Fiona Gibiser started game two of the set for Brockport, pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, and striking out two batters. She gave up four runs, three of which were earned.
Hadley Alguire came in relief and pitched 1 inning, surrendering three earned runs on three hits.
Colleen Davis (L, 4-9) finished the game, pitching 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs.
Paige Wentland continued her hot day at the plate with a 3-for-5 showing in game two with two RBIs.
Olivia Simone contributed significantly with two runs scored in a 2-for-3 outing in game two.
Reagan Myers also made a notable impact by driving in three RBIs.
Riley Barrett scored two runs and recorded one RBI, going 1-for-4 at the plate.
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the first inning against the Pioneers, setting an early tone with five runs on four hits. Barrett, Simone, and
Aubrey Ennis each contributed singles, with Barrett scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Grace Talbut.
A wild pitch advanced runners, allowing Simone to score on a single by Wentland. Myers reached on an error, clearing the bases and adding three unearned runs, securing a 5–0 lead after the first inning.
In the second inning, Brockport added two more runs. Barrett walked and advanced alongside Simone, who singled and stole a base. A sacrifice fly from Ennis brought Barrett home, and Wentland drove in Simone with a single, extending the lead to 7–2 by inning's end.
The third inning saw the Golden Eagles scoring again with a single run. After
Natalie Faas singled and Myers walked, a wild pitch advanced both. Barrett grounded out but brought Faas home, making it 8–4 in favor of Brockport.
In the fourth inning the Pioneers fought back with three runs to cut into the deficit. They would eventually tie the game in the top of the sixth at 8-8. With both teams scoreless in the seventh, it took an extra inning to decide a winner.
Utica would ambush Brockport with five runs in the top of the eighth, pulling away with the 13-8 final score.
On Monday, the Golden Eagles will be resuming its game against Elmira that was suspended due to rain on March 29
th. They will be back at Clark V. Whited, getting back to work for a 3pm start.
