#12/15 Golden Eagles Explode for 32 Runs Across 14 Innings in Doubleheader Sweep of Houghton

Brockport, NY- The #12/15 ranked Brockport baseball team rolled past Houghton in a doubleheader sweep on Thursday, April 17th at the Clark V. Whited complex.
 
The Golden Eagles scored 32 runs on the afternoon, defeating the Highlanders 11-5 in game one before a dominating 21-4 win in game two. Brockport improves to 24-2-1 overall and 13-0 in Empire 8 play, currently riding a 10-game winning streak.
 
Game One: Brockport 11 – Houghton 5 (7 Innings)
 
All nine Golden Eagles with an at-bat recorded a hit or better, with seven different Golden Eagles scoring in the seven-inning game.
 
Angelo Agro (W, 5-1) picked up the win with a strong outing, allowing just one earned run across 5.2 innings of work with three strikeouts.
 
Houghton would jump in front early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first following a Brockport defensive miscue.
 
The Golden Eagles followed up with an eight-run bottom of the first to regain control of the contest. Frank Vanzillotta would tie up the game, scoring on a wild pitch before Zach Eldred would launch his 14th home run of the season to give Brockport a 2-1 lead.
 
Six more runs would cross the plate in the inning, with James Dixon, Victor Alongi (SAC Fly), Vanzillotta (2 RBI), and Josh Indek all providing RBIs.
 
Houghton would tag Brockport with a run in the second inning before the Golden Eagles would strike in the fourth. James Dixon would strike again with another RBI hit, with Victor Alongi picking up his second RBI of the afternoon, extending Brockport's lead to 11-2.
 
The Highlanders would chip at the lead late, but Connor Villano would get the final four outs to secure the 11-5 victory.
 
Kyle Blake was strong in game one, going two-for-four with two runs scored and two doubles.
 
James Dixon was the lone Golden Eagle with two runs, two hits, and two RBI, reaching base safely three times.
 
Game Two: Brockport 21 – Houghton 4 (7 innings)
 
The Golden Eagles' 21 runs matched the most since 2022 (Vs Wisconsin-Superior), setting a season game-high in RBIs (17).
 
15 different Golden Eagles would reach base safely, with nine Brockport players driving in a run or better in game two.
 
Much like game one, Houghton jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the top of the first.

Brockport would respond with an unprecedented 21 unanswered runs, responding with three in the bottom of the first. Zach Eldred would get Brockport on the board with an RBI double before Kyle Blake's two-RBI single would give Brockport a 3-2 lead.
 
Adding five runs between the second and third innings, thanks to RBIs from Victor Alongi, Jason Mansell, and a Frank Vanzillotta RBI double.
 
Already up 8-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Eagles would embark on a historic 13-run inning. Alongi would start the inning with another RBI hit, followed by RBIs from Chris Martin, Vanzillotta (2B, 2 RBIs), Kyle Blake, Jason Story, Nick Mahar (2 RBIs), Timothy Venditti, and Jason Mansell (2 RBIs).
 
Houghton would muster just two runs for the remainder of the contest, allowing Brockport to cruise to a 21-4 win.
 
Brendan Pajak (W, 1-0) would toss two perfect innings to earn the win, collecting three strikeouts.
 
Josh Indek (1-2, 3 BB), Frank Vanzillotta (2-3, 3 RBIs, BB), and Kyle Blake (1-1, 3 RBI, 3R, 3BB) all reached base safely three times or more.
