#12/15 Baseball Ends Russell Sage's 12 Game Winning Streak, Sweeps in DH Action

Brockport, NY- The #12/15 ranked Brockport baseball team extended its winning streak to 12 games, sweeping Russell Sage in DH action on Friday, April 18th. The Golden Eagles improved to 26-2-1 overall and 15-0 in Empire 8 contests.
 
Game One: Brockport 2 – Russell Sage 0 (7 innings)
 
Zach Eldred (W, 6-0) dominated on the mound for Brockport, tossing a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts and just three hits allowed.
 
Both teams would muster just three hits each in game one, with one swing of the bat changing the game for Brockport.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Jason Story would connect for a two-run homer to give Brockport a 2-0 lead, his seventh deep fly of the season.
 
Story's home run would prove to be the game-winner, with Eldred going the distance on the mound to give Brockport a 2-0 game one win.
 
Game Two: Brockport 7 – Russell Sage 1
 
Despite picking up a no-decision, Anthony Lapine dominated Russell Sage all afternoon. Lapine provided 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out eight Gators in an excellent performance.
 
Despite plenty of run-scoring opportunities, neither team would break the 0-0 tie until the seventh inning. With runners on the corners, Josh Indek would lay down a perfect bunt to score Victor Alongi, giving Brockport a 1-0 edge.
 
The Gators were quick to respond, launching a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 1-1.
 
For the first time in the doubleheader, the Brockport offense would have a big inning, plating six runs in the bottom of the eighth. Victor Alongi would start the run with an RBI double, followed by a Chris Martin RBI fielder's choice, and a Frank Vanzillotta single to go ahead 4-1.
 
Josh Indek would put the game out of reach with a bases-clearing 2 RBI triple, with Zach Eldred adding a sacrifice fly to center field to give Brockport the 7-2 advantage.
 
Eric Servellon (W, 2-0) shut the door on Russell Sage, allowing just two hits, one run, and striking out two Gators to earn the win.
 
Frank Vanzillotta would lead Brockport with three hits, reaching base safely four times with a run scored.
 
Josh Indek had a big game two, going two-for-five with three RBIs and a run scored.
 
Victor Alongi would smack three doubles across the doubleheader, going two-for-four in game two with two runs and an RBI.

Up Next: Brockport will look to complete the three-game sweep on Senior Day on Saturday, April 19th at noon.
