Softball Comes Up Short at Fisher, Returns Home Saturday for Senior Day

Pittsford, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team was swept on the road Friday in an Empire 8 doubleheader at St. John Fisher. The Cardinals took the wins by scores of 4-0 and 2-1 in league play. Brockport moves to 10-16 overall and 2-10 in the E8.
 
Brockport 0, Fisher 4 – Game 1 Final
 
Fiona Gibiser (L, 2-1) got the start at pitcher and threw a solid 6.0 innings on the road to open Friday's set. The senior allowed four earned runs on eight hits in a losing effort.
 
At the plate, the Cardinal pitching held Brockport to just two hits in the contest. Paige Wentland was 1-for-3 and Kellie Gentile did the same. Gentile also added two stolen bases for the Green and Gold.
 
Saylor Ayers and Caitlyn Dailey both reached first base on a walk in this one.
 
The first game of the day went scoreless through the first inning before St. John Fisher got going offensively. The home team score a run in the second and third innings to go up 2-0.
 
Gibiser and the Brockport defense kept the game close until the Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. St. John Fisher completed the shutout in game one to take the win, 4-0.
 
Brockport 1, Fisher 2 – Game 2 Final
 
This time it was Colleen Davis (L, 4-10) getting the start and going the whole way at pitcher for the Green and Gold. She threw 6.0 innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with four strikeouts.
 
In game two Brockport saw both Kellie Gentile and Olivia Simone go 1-for-3 at the dish. Grace Talbut connected for a double in a 1-for-2 showing that included a walk as well. Caitlyn Dailey also went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
 
The Golden Eagles struck first blood in the second game of the doubleheader. With runners on base, Dailey hit an RBI single that scored pinch-runner Cece Rappleyea in the fourth. They entered the fifth inning with a 1-0 lead over the Cardinals.
 
St. John Fisher responded in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs to change the tide. The home squad would capture a 2-1 lead, where the scoreboard would remain through the finish line. Fisher completed the sweep to improve to 20-11 overall and 12-2 in the E8.
 
The Golden Eagles will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 19th back home at the Clark V. Whited Complex. They will welcome the Nazareth Golden Flyers for another E8 doubleheader. The Senior Day Ceremony will be happening prior to the start of play, with game one scheduled for a 1pm start.
