Brockport, NY- The #12 Brockport baseball team went 1-0-1 in doubleheader action from St. John Fisher on Tuesday, April 22nd, winning game one 12-4 before tying the Cardinals 10-10 in game two.
Game One: Brockport 12 – St. John Fisher 4
Zach Eldred (3-4, 2R) outscored the Cardinals himself in game one, launching two home runs with six RBIs, reaching base safely four times.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, with Eldred getting the scoring started with his first home run of the afternoon, putting Brockport up 2-0.
James Dixon would connect for a RBI single in the inning, with
Victor Alongi scoring Dixon with his own RBI single.
Following a two-run Cardinal response in the bottom of the first, Brockport would add four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Cole Grazioplene would plate two Golden Eagles with a double, with
Josh Indek and
Zach Eldred both providing RBI at-bats to extend the lead to 8-2.
After another two-run inning for St. John Fisher to cut the lead to 8-4, Alongi and Eldred would team up to secure the win. Alongi would drill a RBI double in the sixth inning before Eldred would clear the bases with a three-run homer, allowing Brockport to cruise to a 12-4 win.
Victor Alongi would stay hot, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in a strong effort.
James Dixon would have a solid game one, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
Eric Servellon (W, 3-0) picked up the win, going 3.2 innings with two earned runs allowed and three strikeouts.
Anthony Lapine closed out the contest with 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
Game Two: Brockport 10 - St. John Fisher 10
The Green and Gold would start hot once again, scoring three runs in the opening frame.
Kyle Blake opened the scoring with a RBI single, followed by a
James Dixon RBI walk and
Matthew Coon RBI fielder's choice.
The Brockport lead would be short-lived, with the Cardinals plating the game's next seven runs.
The Golden Eagles would respond with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from
Victor Alongi and
Frank Vanzillotta to cut Fisher's lead to 7-6.
St. John Fisher would quickly respond with a three-run 5
th inning, extending their advantage to 10-6.
Brockport would continue to fight, plating the contests' next four runs.
Josh Indek would connect for a pair of sacrifice flies, and
James Dixon would smack a clutch two-RBI double to tie the game at 10-10.
Despite scoring chances from both teams, neither would break the tie, with game two being called in the 10
th inning due to darkness.
Kyle Blake (3-4, 2BB) and Frank Vanzillota (3-6, 1 RBI) would combine for six hits, four runs scored, and two RBIs in excellent efforts. Vanzillotta would finish game two just a triple short of the cycle.
Victor Alongi would post another multi-hit outing, going 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
