Brockport, NY—The #12 Brockport baseball team dominated Alfred in doubleheader action from Houghton, NY on Saturday, April 26th. The Golden Eagles improved to 29-3-2 and 18-1-1 in Empire 8 contests following the doubleheader.
Game One: Brockport 18 – Alfred 1
11 Golden Eagles would register a hit or better in game one, with eight Brockport players recording an RBI or better.
Zach Eldred (W, 7-0) picked up the win for Brockport, tossing five innings of one-run baseball with eight punchouts.
The Golden Eagles jumped on the Saxons early, scoring six runs in the opening inning.
Victor Alongi would highlight the inning with a two-RBI single, putting Brockport up 6-0.
Following an Alfred run in the bottom of the first, the Golden Eagles would close the contest with 12 straight runs. The scoring run was highlighted by RBI hits from
Nick Mahar,
Frank Vanzillotta,
Zach Eldred,
Cole Grazioplene (3B, 3 RBI), and
Chris Martin (2B).
Michael Heilig finished the contest with two flawless innings, allowing no hits and striking out two Saxons.
Cole Grazioplene led Brockport with 3 RBI, going 2-for-3 with a run and a triple.
James Dixon (2-3) and
Jason Story (2 SB) led Brockport with three runs scored.
Game Two: Brockport 20 – Alfred 0
Jason Story (2-3, 5 RBI) exploded for two home runs in game two, scoring the first five runs of game two for the Golden Eagles.
Ryan Peters (W, 5-1) was excellent throughout, going five scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and six strikeouts.
Following a pair of
Jason Story homers to go ahead 5-0 in the third,
Cole Grazioplene ripped a RBI single to put Brockport up 6-0 in the third.
The Golden Eagle offense would not be stopped, adding six more runs in the fourth.
Zach Eldred,
Kyle Blake (2 RBI), and
James Dixon would add RBI doubles, with Dixon and Mansell scoring on a pair of Alfred miscues.
Ahead 12-0 entering the sixth inning, Brockport would explode for an eight-run inning, highlighted by
Zach Prior's (3 RBI) first home run of the season. Eric Gersfeld and
CJ Pisano would add RBI hits in the sixth.
Thomas Browne would toss two scoreless innings to preserve the shutout, picking up three strikeouts.
13 Golden Eagles would record a hit in game two, with
Cole Grazioplene going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Josh Index reached base safely three times, going 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored.
