Brockport Gets Walk-Off Win in Game 1, Splits With Geneseo at Home

Brockport, NY – The Brockport Golden Eagles split with Geneseo at home on Thursday, April 24th. Brockport took game one, 4-3, in dramatic fashion. Geneseo then came back with a, 9-1, win in game two.
 
Brockport 4, Geneseo 3 – Game 1 Final
 
The visiting Knights struck first to get the doubleheader started, going up 1-0 in the second. They would add a second run in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead, but Brockport responded.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Brockport came up with three runs to surge ahead on the scoreboard, 3-2. With two runners on, Olivia Simone hit a base-clearing double to tie the score at 2-2. Aubrey Ennis quickly followed up with an RBI single to score Simone and give Brockport a 1-run lead.
 
Colleen Davis (W, 5-9) pitched a great for the Golden Eagles, helping secure that lead into the top of the seventh inning. In a winning effort she went the full 7.0 innings, and allowed just two earned runs on 10 hits.
 
Geneseo was able to rally with two outs in the top of seven to tie the score. Three straight singles saw the scoreboard read 3-3 with two runners still on base. Davis and the Brockport defense got out of the jam to set the stage for an exciting finish.
 
Kellie Gentile got it started with a 1-out single, which was immediately followed up by a single from Simone. An error in the field allowed Ennis to load the bases for Brockport, pushing the game-winning run to third base.
 
It was Paige Wentland who got the job done for the walk-off victory. Gentile was able to beat out the throw home, as Wentland put the ball in play to give the Golden Eagles the win to start the doubleheader.
 
Olivia Simone went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in a strong performance. Aubrey Ennis also was 2-for-4, matching Simone with a double and registering one RBI. Kellie Gentile was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in the leadoff spot.
 
Paige Wentland was 1-for-4 with the game-winning RBI in game one. Cece Rapplyea scored a run in a 1-for-3 outing at the plate and Grace Talbut was 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter in the contest.
 
Brockport 1, Geneseo 9 – Game 2 Final
 
The second-leg of the doubleheader was a different game as the Geneseo Knights got their bats going in the second inning. They scored five runs in the second and two more in the third to take a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of three.
 
Brockport was able to respond with a run of its own. Aubrey Ennis connected for an RBI single that sent Kellie Gentile home to score to get a run back. However, Geneseo held on to that 7-1 lead moving into the fifth.
 
The Knights were able to quickly load the bases, which setup a double that scored a pair of runs. They would take a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth. Gentile tried to provide a spark with a leadoff single and stealing second base. The Geneseo defense held strong to end the game in five innings.
 
Fiona Gibiser (L, 2-3) picked up the loss, going 3.0 innings with six earned runs allowed and two strikeouts in the start. Laina Beer threw the last 2.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits.
 
Aubrey Ennis was 1-for-3 with an RBI in game two. Kellie Gentile stole two bases and scored a run in a 1-for-3 outing at the plate.
 
Riley Barrett, Cece Rappleyea, and Reagan Myers all were 1-for-2 with a single. Grace Talbut reached base in both plate appearances, drawing two walks.
 
The Golden Eagles moved to 11-19 overall and 2-12 in conference play following the split with Geneseo. They hit the road this weekend for dates with Hartwick (Saturday at 1pm) and Russell Sage (Sunday at 1pm).
