Outdoor Track and Field Opens 2025 Season at Geneseo

Brockport, NY – The Brockport men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are set to open up the 2025 season at SUNY Geneseo on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th for the Geneseo Early Season Invitational.  

Last Season Recap – The Golden Eagles finished out the 2024 season strong, sending multiple athletes to SUNYAC Championships, AARTFC Championships, and Nationals. 

SUNYAC Championships - At the SUNYAC Championships at Geneseo, the men finished up in third place and the women took second from multiple dominating performances. 

On the men's team, Jared Smith finished as a SUNYAC Champion in the men's 10k race. Gabriel Giannini earned champion status in the high jump and Matthew Jackson took first in the men's hammer throw. Daniel Reinhart took pole vault SUNYAC Champion and Jonathan Zavala had a strong first place finish in the 1500m race. Brockport's 4x400 team also earned SUNYAC champion consisting of Michael Durski, Craig Duffy, Jacob Miller, and Ayden Grinion. Grinion went on to take first place in the 400m hurdles. 

Rebecca Heuler earned champion status in the javelin throw for the women's team. Sasha Schramm took first in the high jump, and Sarah Crockett took SUNYAC Champion in the discus throw. 

NCAA DIII Nationals – Brockport sent eight athletes to nationals in the 2024 season after some impressive qualifying times. 

The 4x400 team consisting of Michael Durski, Craig Duffy, Ayden Grinion, and Jacob Miller finished up in 9thoverall at a time of 3:13.33 also good for second team All-Americans. 

 Jonathan Zavala qualified for the finals of the men's 1500m race where he placed ninth overall at a time of 3:54.10 earning his second team All-American status.

Jacob Miller finished up in the men's 400m race, sixth in his heat and 15th overall with a time of 48.15. 

Matthew Jackson finished second team All-American after a 16th place finish recording a long mark of 57.03m. 

Mia Montgomery finished in 11th place overall in the long jump at a leap of 5.63m while also achieving second team All-American 

Rebecca Heuler made history in the women's javelin throw at a mark of 47.35m claiming the national title, first team All-American, and setting a new outdoor program record for Brockport. 

All Region Selections – Both teams also finished up with a multitude of All-Region selections with the men earning 10 and the women snagging seven.

  • Derek Grimshaw – 100m 
  • Ayden Grinion – 400m Hurdles

  • Alex Rood – Shotput 
  • Jared Smith – 5000m and 10,000m 
  • Dillon VanDermortel – 3000m Steeplechase
  • Jonathan Zavala – 1500m 
Women's Team:  Next Weekend – Following this weekend, the Golden Eagles are set for a busy next weekend as they host the Brockport Multi Meet on Saturday, April 12th and also travel to Bucknell University for the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th.
