Brockport, NY – The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams finished up day 1 of the Empire 8 Championships with multiple athletes posting program-best performances and podium finishes. The men's team (57 points) and the women's team (64 points) currently sit in second place entering day two.
Men's Team:
Tyler Miller had a strong day in the men's decathlon, taking fourth in the 100m race at 11.77 seconds. In the 400m, Miller also took fourth at 55.26 seconds, fourth in the shotput at 9.52m, sixth in the long jump at 6.11m, and finished fifth in the high jump at 1.73m.
In the men's 400m race,
Michael Durski took fourth place with a personal record of 48.87 seconds, also good for sixth all-time in Brockport and an AARTFC qualifying time.
Ayden Grinion also had a personal record and AARTFC qualifying time of 48.93 seconds, taking fifth place.
The men's 4x800 team, consisting of
Frank Calhoun,
Brian Cappellini,
Thomas Canestrari, and
Connor Kerr, finished up in fourth and a tenth all time mark of 8:10.41.
Howie Vargas finished on the podium in eighth in the 3000 steeplechase at 10:08.09.
In the pole vault,
Daniel Reinhart had a day clinching a bronze medal with an AARTFC qualifying mark of 4.70m, also taking eighth all-time in Brockport.
Gabriel Giannini finished just one place after in fourth at 4.40m.
Allen Reome also took home a bronze medal in the javelin with a 10
th all-time spot in Brockport from a 49.15m throw.
Gabriel Giannini finished in fourth at 48.21m and
Tyler Miller took sixth at 45.39m.
Finishing off day 1 in the long jump was
Bryce Roberts, taking home a silver medal from a 6.78m jump.
Gabriel Giannini took fourth at 6.66m, and
Dennis Bobbitt finished up in fifth at 6.56m.
Women's Team:
Leah Lloyd started the day strong in the 3000m steeplechase in fifth at an AARTFC qualifying time of 11:26.50 also good for sixth all time. Julianne Wilson finished in sixth, also with an AARTFC qualifying time of 11:37.77.
In the women's 400m, Marissa Wise finished in second place, earning silver at an AARTFC qualifying time of 57.85 seconds.
The women's 4x800 team, consisting of Mia Vizcaino, Ethne Degan, Jaylah Cossin, and Vanessa Ramos walked away with the gold medal and a new Brockport school record, a meet record, and an AARTFC qualifying time of 9:23.28.
Jennifer Regan took eighth place in the women's 10000m race, crossing the finish line in 41:03.35.
Sasha Schramm clinched the bronze medal in the long jump from a 5.63m leap, good for the sixth-best mark in program history.
Lainey Porter had a day in the hammer throw, taking the bronze medal from an AARTFC qualifying distance of 47.87m.
In the hammer throw, Isabel Swyers had an impressive jump of 3.50m, helping her to a second-place finish, an AARTFC qualifying distance, and a tie for sixth all time.
Rebecca Heuler finished out the day in the javelin with a first-place finish from an AARTFC qualifying throw of 39.12, and Madison Kirkpatrick took fifth from a 32.79m throw, also good for 10
th all time in Brockport.
Day 2 – The Golden Eagles are back for day 2 of Empire 8 action Saturday, May 2
nd, starting at 10 am at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
