Brockport, N.Y. – The Empire 8 announced on Monday, April 6, that Timothy Smith has been named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week. This award follows a standout opening weekend of the outdoor season at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational.
Smith began his outdoor campaign with an impressive performance in the 400m hurdles, where he finished second overall. His time of 52.85 not only serves as an AARTFC qualifying mark but also currently ranks sixth in all of NCAA Division III for the event.
The honor comes after a historic indoor season for the standout runner. Smith recently earned All-American status after finishing seventh in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships. His school-record time of 1:51.61 on the national stage set a high bar, and he looks to carry that same championship momentum into the outdoor season.
The Brockport men's and women's track and field teams will continue their outdoor season this weekend as they travel to Bucknell University. The Golden Eagles are set to compete in the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic from Friday, April 10, through Sunday, April 12. Start times for the events have yet to be determined.
