Brockport, NY – On Friday night, the Golden Eagles hosted the first day of the Brockport Invitational. Following Manhattanville's 3-0 sweep over Hilbert, Brockport (2-3) earned a 3-1 win over Morrisville.
Madisen Jones had a strong outing for Brockport at The Vlog with a team-high 12 kills (.524 pct) in the win.
Anna Cascapera and
Luba Butcher both were active offensively as well with 11 kills apiece. Cascapera also added 13 digs to go with 18 digs from
Alexis Sison (match-high).
Gianna Felipe had seven digs and three service aces.
Kaitlyn Jewett was busy at setter with 39 assists and earned a pair of aces on the serve.
Ana Parella had a good night as well with seven kills, two aces, and two solo blocks.
Each of the first three sets were decided by four or less points. The Golden Eagles were able to edge past the visiting Mustangs, 25-23, in the opening set. In the second, they would repeat that effort to go up 2-0 for the match.
Morrisville battled back to score in the third set, 25-21, to stay alive. The Mustangs were led by Isabelle Eskierka's line of 13 kills (match-high), 10 digs, and two aces. However, they would suffer their first loss of the season (4-1) after Brockport took the fourth set.
The Golden Eagles dominated the fourth frame, which included separate 6-0 and 5-0 runs. They would clinch the 3-1 win with a 25-12 showing in the fourth to defeat the Mustangs.
On Saturday, Brockport will take on Manhattanville (12pm) and Hilbert (2:30pm) for the final day of the Brockport Invitational at The Vlog.
