Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team closed out the weekend at home for the Brockport Invitational on Saturday. Going 1-1 on the day, the Golden Eagles went 2-1 for the weekend to improve to 3-4 overall.
Brockport 1, Manhattanville 3 – Final
The visiting Valiants pulled out a pair of hard-fought sets to take a 2-0 lead in the match against the Green and Gold to start the day. Manhattanville won the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-21.
Brockport bounced back, making it a 2-1 score thanks to a 25-19 win in the third set. However, the fourth set would be the final set after a 25-16 effort from Manhattanville to seal the 3-1 win.
Both
Madisen Jones and
Luba Butcher had eight kills for the Green and Gold in this one.
Kaitlyn Jewett totaled 27 assists from her setter position on the floor. Butcher also had four aces to go with Jewett's three aces.
Gianna Felipe (17) and
Alexis Sison (10) led the team in digs against the Valiants.
Luba Butcher and
Maddy Howell both had three block assists.
Lauren Emke had one solo block to go with two assists.
Brockport 3, Hilbert 1 – Final
Back on the court following the loss to Manhattanville, the Golden Eagles bounced back against the Hilbert Hawks. Brockport took the first set, 25-17, and Hilbert answered in the second, 28-26.
The third set broke the 1-1 tie in the match, as Brockport took the point 25-18. The home squad earned the 3-1 win thanks to a 25-17 showing in the fourth set to close out the victory.
Freshman
Luba Butcher posted a match-best 14 kills to go with 12 digs and three block assists defensively.
Alexis Sison had an impressive two-way showing with 13 kills and 22 digs.
Gianna Felipe finished with 23 digs, leading all players in the match. The team also got 14 digs from
Ava Baty to go with her 17 assists.
Kaitlyn Jewett set the table for the hitters with 27 assists.
Ana Parella finished with two solo blocks and five assisted blocks for her best showing in the middle as a Golden Eagle.
The Golden Eagles are back out on the road next weekend to compete at the RIT Invitational.
