BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Ice Hockey team completed the season sweep of Elmira, defeating the Soaring Eagles on the road, 5-2, on Saturday, January 10th. The Golden Eagles improved to 5-8 overall and 3-2-1 in UCHC play following the win.
The Soaring Eagles would control the first 20 minutes of action, lighting the lamp at the 10:17 mark of the opening period to jump ahead 1-0 early. Brockport would find plenty of scoring chances in the opening frame, but eight Brody Haynes saves would keep the Green and Gold off the scoreboard entering the second period.Â
Elmira would maintain control of the contest in the second period, doubling their lead and outshooting Brockport in the period (14-4). Brock MacDonald would connect for a goal just 3:44 into the period to put Elmira ahead 2-0. The home team would threaten throughout the period, but 13
David Filak saves would keep Brockport within striking distance entering the final period.
Down 2-0 with 20 minutes to play,
Matthew Lee would kick-start the Brockport offense. Just 34 seconds into the period,
Aidan Taylor would connect with Lee for Brockport's opening goal, setting the stage for a critical comeback. Less than three minutes later,
Josh Grund would tie up the contest, with freshman Joshua Pryzstal providing the assist.
The Golden Eagle offense would catch fire throughout the period, with Kyle Kussman taking advantage on the man advantage. Kussman would give Brockport the lead on the powerplay, seeing Micheal Kull adding the apple on the go-ahead goal. Less than two minutes removed,
Brody Seitz would secure a crucial insurance goal to extend the Brockport advantage to 4-2. Spencer Flansberg would pick up a point on the assist.
Leaving no doubt,
Matthew Lee would score his second of the evening late in the third, burying the empty net goal to secure Brockport's comeback victory.
David Filak was strong between the pipes for Brockport, making 29 saves with just two goals allowed in a excellent outing.
Eight different Golden Eagles finished with a point or better in a true team win. Brockport fared well in the faceoff circle (38-69), with
Sacha Trudel leading the way (10-4).Â

Jackson Faughnan led the shot blocking efforts for Brockport, all blocking two shots each.Â
