BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team (5-8, 1-3 E8) dropped a nail-biting contest to Keuka College (6-7, 3-1 E8) Tuesday night, falling 65-62 in a defensive battle at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Despite a standout performance from freshman
Jack Clancy and a late-game surge, the Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize on their final scoring opportunities following a cold stretch at the line.
The Golden Eagles established an early rhythm, jumping out to a 3-0 lead following a
Jacob Oka layup and free throw. However, the Wolves quickly ignited, eventually building an 11-point lead midway through the first half at 23-12. Brockport showed resilience, clawing back to keep the contest within a single possession for much of the second frame. The game featured three lead changes as the Green and Gold fought to reclaim control in the closing minutes.
Efficiency and Defensive Grit
The final outcome was heavily influenced by late-game performance at the charity stripe. While the Golden Eagles shot a respectable 75% from the free-throw line in the opening half (6-8), their accuracy dipped to 37.5% in the second half (3-8). This included three consecutive missed free throws in the final two minutes of play.
As a team, Brockport shot 34.9% from the field (22-63) compared to Keuka's 40.7% mark. The Golden Eagles did show significant improvement in discipline, staying out of foul trouble with only 13 personal fouls, a improvement from previous outings. While Brockport forced 16 turnovers and cashed them in for 14 points, they struggled to ignite their transition game, recording only 4 points off fast breaks.
Leading the Way
Freshman
Jack Clancy played a game-high 36 minutes and was the leading scorer for both sides with a season-high 17 points. Clancy was lethal from downtown, knocking down 5-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc (55.5%) and finishing with a 60% field goal percentage overall. He also added three assists, two rebounds, and a season-high two steals, proving to be a high-level on-ball perimeter defender and versatile scoring threat.
Forward
Jacob Oka flirted with a double-double, recording 14 points on 42.8% shooting in 34 minutes. He was a force on the glass, snagging eight rebounds (four offensive) while remaining disruptive on the defensive end with a team-high three steals.
Camron Dyer finished with 14 points and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. He filled the stat sheet with five rebounds and three assists while snagging himself a steal.
Omar White anchored the Brockport defense, pestering the Keuka backcourt all evening and matching Oka with eight rebounds—including a team-high five on the offensive glass. White finished with eight points, a block, and an assist to round out his gritty performance.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will look to bounce back as they continue conference play on the road. Brockport travels to Utica, NY, for a matchup against Utica University on Friday, January 16th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
