Mens Basketball Tips Off New Year at Home Against La Roche

Brockport, NY – After closing out the 2025 calendar year with a down-to-the-wire comeback victory, the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team (3-5) is set to ring in the New Year back at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles look to extend their winning streak and remain perfect on their home floor as they host La Roche University this Saturday, January 3rd, with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.

A Thriller at The Vlog: The Golden Eagles enter the new year riding the momentum of a gritty 61-60 win over Penn State Behrend in their home opener. Brockport showed immense resilience, overcoming a 15-point first-half deficit to stun the Lions. After struggling to find their rhythm early, the Green and Gold exploded for a massive 18-2 run in the second half to seize control.

The turning point came with 11:58 remaining when freshman Jack Clancy buried a clutch corner three-pointer, giving Brockport its first lead since the opening minutes of the contest. The Golden Eagles' second-half surge was fueled by elite efficiency, as the team shot 52.1% from the floor and a scorching 54.5% from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes.

Camron Dyer was the catalyst for the Golden Eagles, stuffing the stat sheet with 15 points, two blocks, and two steals. Veteran leaders Jacob Oka and Zachary Rice were equally vital; Oka sparked the comeback with eight straight points in the first half to keep the game within reach, while Rice dominated the glass, finishing on the cusp of a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Brockport also showcased major growth at the charity stripe, knocking down 76.9% of their free throws, a sharp improvement from their previous outing.

Scouting the Redhawks: The Golden Eagles continue their home stand this Saturday, welcoming La Roche University (3-8) to the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. The Redhawks are coming off a pair of high-scoring affairs, including a narrow 102-96 shootout against Pitt-Bradford and a 99-77 setback against Washington & Jefferson. Despite their recent struggles, La Roche features a potent offensive attack capable of putting up big numbers.

The Redhawks are led by junior guard Bryce Epps, who serves as the engine of their offense. Epps is currently averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game while contributing significantly on the boards (6.2 RPG) and as a playmaker (2.8 APG)

Brockport currently holds a 0-1 all-time record against La Roche, having dropped an 86-75 decision to the Redhawks on January 25th of last year. A win this weekend would not only even the series but also provide the Golden Eagles with a crucial boost as they prepare for the heart of their schedule.

Up Next: Following the non-conference tilt with La Roche, the Golden Eagles will officially turn their attention to conference play. Brockport will host Elmira College for their highly anticipated Empire 8 conference opener on Tuesday, January 6th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym.
